The HRM Is After Me After Office Romance Gone Wrong

Office romance is never considered one of the best ideas. Not many organizations approve of these relationships, and those who engage in this have to do it in secret until at least one of them resigns. Even for those in companies where it is allowed, it is not a walk in the park either.
What if you try your very best to avoid a workplace romance, but it still comes after you and even lands you in trouble even though your workplace has no problem with it?
Lily’s Story
“I joined this company about a year ago, hoping to be the best I could be, and eventually grow in my career. Like many newly-employed individuals, I kept to myself a lot, during the first few weeks. I later made friends and my friendly nature could easily be seen by all I interacted with.
Within no time, I got a few relationship proposals right within the office. I had already been through this where I previously worked, and thus did not want to be in a similar situation at my new place of work.
This man, in particular, was however very persistent, and no matter how many times I turned him down, he would always crawl back. I decided to have conversations with him and just engage him, but at the same time, keep all emotions out.
It, however, got to a point where I felt uncomfortable especially after he once tried to steal a kiss from me in the elevator at work, and went telling everybody who cared to listen that we had kissed, even though we had not.
Rumors soon started going around the office that the two of us were an item, something he happily entertained, and something that got me mad. This is because I knew it was not true.
I started getting text messages from the Human Resource Manager who would call me obscene names due to the rumors going around. I did not understand why but later got to learn that the colleague who wanted a relationship with me, actually had a solid relationship with the HRM. They were even living together.
I have a disciplinary case facing me now, and as the HRM is part of the board, I am not sure whether I will get a fair hearing. I have been left feeling uncomfortable, and I now feel like quitting even though I have nowhere to go.”
