Nuggets Of Wisdom To Take Your Career Forward This Year

Many of us have come up with New Year resolutions, at least with one related to our careers. You could be looking to grow your career, seeking to do something you love, or simply do not know what to do with your career options.

With this being the first weekend of the year, this is the perfect time to reflect on these nuggets of wisdom and take down notes as you think about how to take your career forward this year.

1. Understand your gift

While for others it is quite simple to identify what their gifts are, others have a difficult time doing this. If it is taking time for you to identify your area of passion and gifting, do not stop working towards finding it.

In the end, something you are excited about will keep you on track in your career journey.

Find your true gifting and connect that to the different passions that you have.

2. Seek expert support

Sometimes deciding the best career that suits you is something that could be quite draining. Therefore, if you think that you need some expert guidance to make your choices, do it.

It can take just one line from a career coach to help you piece together the different interests that you have, or just make sense of the trajectory that suits your career aspirations best.

There are people who have been there before you, so seek their counsel.

3. Pay attention to your journey

There are people that come into our lives for a reason. Some to show you the way, others to teach you what not to do, and even others to show you where you really do not want to work.

Others will also come to open your world and expand your horizons. Pay attention to all these people and try to understand what their role is in your career growth.

4. Take advantage of all the information out there

We live in a time where there is a lot of information at our disposal. If you are looking to start a business, a place to volunteer your skills, a mentor, new avenues to meet and interact with people in your field, actively look for that information.

In order to grow your career, you will need to continually learn and discover. This will only happen if you are making use of all the available resources. There is therefore no excuse for ignorance.

5. If you are in a position to choose, follow your heart

We are in a society where many times we have to put up with courses or jobs that we do not like, simply because that is what is available for us. This is understandable. However, if you ever find yourself in a position to choose, always go for what resonates with you, deep down in your heart.

Something that you truly love is more likely to give you career satisfaction, as opposed to something you are merely tolerating.
