3 Reasons Why You Should Never Write Your Own CV

By Ruoro Kairu

Over the weekend, one of the supports of my table got loose. I wasn’t doing much at the time, so I decided to fix it myself.

I went to the nearest hardware store, purchased a few nails and a hammer.

I started right on it. I thought it was just a simple job of nailing the support back to the rest of the table and ensuring its firm.

When I started hammering, one of the nails went through the legs of the table and split it in half. I went back to the hardware store and bought glue. I tried gluing the table back together, so I could continue hammering it, but it did not work.

In the end, I had to call a carpenter, and due to the damage I had caused, it ended up costing me three times what it would have initially cost.

Like me, you may be tempted to try and fix everything on your own.

When the carpenter came, he asked me if I would try to operate on myself, or if I would try and fly a plane. His argument made sense; there are professionals in different fields for a reason. This was his field, and I should have called him soon as I realized I needed assistance.

While looking for a job, you might get tempted to do everything yourself. Like me, however, you might not have much success when you do not involve an expert.

One of the areas where you should consult an expert is while you’re writing your CV.

Regardless of how good you are in your area of training, if your CV does not reflect this, you won’t get called in for the interview.

Your CV is a bold statement about your career. You should not try to fix it yourself and miss out on that job opportunity.
