Beauty & Lifestyle Digital Influencer Joanna Kinuthia has evidently risen to become a household name in the beauty industry. After quitting her job, she decided to venture full-time into beauty – which was an unclear path for her at the time. Since then, she has managed to collaborate with major brands and even launched her own makeup brand, Joanna K Cosmetics.

Although she is her own boss, she abides by a routine that has helped her be where she is at. Her day typically begins at 6 am with prayer at her local church. She then has breakfast at 8 am, and reads a personal development book for about an hour – which she says gets her motivated for the day.

As she has an office space in the house, at 9 am she begins work, to around midday when she takes a lunch break. After lunch, she returns to more work and tries to close by 6 pm after which she makes time to catch up with family and then read more from her personal development book. She then goes to bed around 10 pm or 11 pm to ensure she gets enough hours of sleep.

Your day may be different, with you probably having to report to work and grapple with the constant traffic jam to and from work, thus getting home after dark and leaving early the following morning.

However, to be successful, there are certain things you need to incorporate and make part of your daily life.

Here are things you can incorporate into your daily life, to be successful:

1. Plan your day the night before

Every minute spent in planning saves 10 minutes in execution. This is something that Keroche Breweries founder Tabitha Karanja, knows too well.

“There are no shortcuts in life and to be successful you need to go the extra mile. There is also no time, so don’t waste it.”

Every evening, she makes it a point to have a quick 5-minute rundown of the coming day, to ensure she has an idea of how her day looks like.

Have a planner where you can plan your day in advance, to enable you to know what to do the following day. In the morning just before starting off your tasks, check with your planner and give yourself a quick refresher of your to-do list.

You will be in control of your schedule, and your day.

2. Set priorities on your to-do list before you start the day

If you have 10 items on your list of things that need to be done within the day, you will realize that some are more important than others.

Go through your list and ask yourself the question, “If I were to be called out of town for a month, what are the most important tasks that I would need to accomplish before leaving?”

This will enable you to know what to start with and follow it with until you have all of your tasks completed.

3. Read widely

Former US President Barack Obama has been known to be an avid reader and enjoys championing it too.

Many successful people read – some for pleasure, and others to gain knowledge or insight. As you transit to or from work, you can take the time to go through a chapter of a book of your liking.

If you do not know where to start, go through book lists and recommended books by individuals you aspire to be like. Read as much as you can. It is a great avenue to build your knowledge and skill set.

4. Network

“Birds of a feather flock together,” is a practical way to look at this. Successful people have established the value of collaboration and teamwork.

Networking will help not only build your knowledge on something you have no idea about. Better yet, you will be able to get ideas that will help you improve yourself.

5. Have a positive attitude

Having a positive attitude is a path toward success. Positivity propels you to go through your daily tasks with vigour and zest, as you look towards your end goal.

Obama’s ‘Yes We Can’ slogan is what propelled him to be the most powerful man in the country, despite all odds.

Use words of affirmation to motivate yourself.
