Overall Responsibility

The position is responsible for the general supervision of all life operations in the company. Assessing underwriting risks and processing claims in accordance with laid down underwriting and claims procedures in the company and to ensure effective and efficient service delivery to customers

Responsibilities

Product Review & New products development

  • Periodically review existing products and their respective benefits and compare with the market needs with a view to meet customer needs.
  • Continuously look for new business potential by developing new products.
  • Ensuring continuous prospecting for launching relevant new products.
  • Propose new market approaches and strategies

Ordinary life, Group life & credit business underwriting, policy issuance & Claims

  • Ascertain new business requirements and documentations for contractual agreements and subsequent policy document issuance.
  • Verification of all proposal forms submitted and ensure they justify life cover proposed, premium is commensurate and all information is provided.
  • Establish the free cover limits for each scheme and identify those members to undergo medicals to ascertain cover.
  • Request for medicals in line with the company’s medical underwriting guidelines.
  • Facilitate underwriting of the medical reports and advice of the reassurances under the treaty cessions of their treaty shares thereof.
  • Issue acceptance terms and prepare scheme’s costing schedules.
  • Ensure any policy amendments and endorsements are promptly done.
  • Renew policies in line with the underwriting guidelines and within the stipulated time frames.
  • Ensure claims are paid effectively and efficiently in effort to enhance improved customer service and delivery in line with the cooperate goals and strategies.
  • Prepare Returns to commissioner on timely basis.
  • Submit reassurance returns and settlement of cessions and facilitate payment of reassurance profits in any by the reinsurers.
  • Continuously prepare underwriting and claims reports for management and for ease of Actuarial and valuation exercises.

Customer Service Support

  • Ensure that customer service standards are adhered to in respect of policy issues, payments of claims and benefits; and cheques are delivered to the policyholders promptly.
  • Handling client complaints in conjunction with the staff, TLA or broker/intermediary involved.
  • Advise and recommend on improvements to customer service activities and standards with a view to maintaining a leading edge client service delivery system.

People Management and Administrative Duties

  • Ensure acceptable levels of discipline are maintained within the department.
  • Continuously inform the staff on any changes in company policies and give guidance in their jobs through coaching and training.
  • Establish performance objectives for employees and monitor performance on a continuous basis.

Operations

  • Ensure the ERP system implementation is set up and runs efficiently as per User requirements.
  • Facilitate reinsurance treaty contracts and renewals.
  • Ensure full compliance with statutory bodies on any matters relating to the business.
  • Regularly review SOP’s and other documents with recommendations for any amendments.
  • Timely submission of data and processing of agents’ commissions.
  • Prepare Returns to commissioner on timely basis.

Business Promotion and Development

  • Train the sales force in liaison with the Agency leaders in an effort to ensure product knowledge remain well rated within the sales team.
  • Identifying market opportunities and making recommendations towards development of targeted value-product offerings for viable market segments.
  • Meeting established business development and organic growth targets in sales, new business acquisition, renewals and premium income through coordinated marketing through the Agents, Brokers and other intermediaries.
  • Evaluating market coverage and penetration, and proposing new methods e.g. designingmass prospecting strategies, for enhanced market coverage and penetration and directing the Agency Force to specific / designated markets.
  • Check and confirm that all acquisitions from the agency force are in line with company underwriting requirements.
  • Identifying market opportunities and making recommendations towards development of targeted value-product offerings for viable market segments.
  • Any other duties assigned by management in line with task.

Qualifications

Academic qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree from a recognized university
  • Pass in at least five papers in ACII or equivalent

Experience required

  • At least 4 years relevant experience
