Eric, a public relations officer at a leading Communications Firm recently got a job offer as a SME company. He was excited about the new job opportunity and what it could offer but he quickly found himself in a dilemma when he realized that the transition would come with a couple of significant changes.

He scheduled a career coaching session with us and expressed his concerns on making a move from a large company to a small company.

He was concerned whether the company would support his career goals, work style, and desired team dynamic.

“I need to have more information before I make the move and accept the job offer”, Eric said.

Reasons why a small company would be a suitable fit

1.Opportunity to negotiate salary package

Small companies fight to be more competitive so the salary packages are at market – if not higher.

They also provide a slight compensation packages, but retirement and pension options are rare because of fixed budgets.

However, unlike large companies, at smaller company’s employees can negotiate their value through proven success.

2.Team work is encouraged

Working for a small company you not only are able to benefit from the relationships involved with being part of a small team, but you also have easier access to the company’s moving parts – making voicing concerns or pitching ideas, and response easier and faster as compared to working at a large company.

3.Hard work and contribution are easily noticed

While working at small companies, your achievements will have an immediate impact on the organization’s overall strategy, direction, and goals.
