How To Use Networking To Find A Job

We’ve all heard the phrase “it’s not what you know but who you know”. Every day, I hear of someone being promoted because he was recommended by a powerful friend of the boss, or, most recently, that an unqualified man was promoted to a managerial position because he was the lover (secretly) of the man who ran the company.

However, career networking involves using personal, professional, academic, or familial contacts to assist with a job search, achieve career goals, and learn more about your field, or another field you’d like to work in.

Networking can be a good way to hear about job opportunities or get in at a company you’d like to work with.

Tapping the hidden job market through networking may take more planning and nerve than searching online, but it’s much more effective.

Being open to connecting and helping others in good times and bad can help you find the right job, make valuable connections in your chosen field, and stay focused and motivated during your job search.
