Driver III/II – 2 Posts Job Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Kenya-AIST)

Job purpose

The Driver will be responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation services for Institute staff, students, and visitors

Duties and responsibilities

  • Carrying out routine checks on vehicles;
  • Driving motor vehicle as authorized;
  • Maintaining work tickets for vehicles assigned;
  • Ensuring security and safety for the vehicle on and off the road;
  • Ensuring safety of persons and/or goods in the vehicle;
  • Timely reporting of accidents and follow up of police abstract;
  • Maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle;
  • Detecting and reporting malfunctioning of vehicles; and
  • Maintaining records on repairs and maintenance.

Person Specification

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must:

  • Have at least three (3) years relevant work experience.
  • Have Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean Grade D (plain) or equivalent qualification;
  • Have a Valid driving license free from any current endorsements and valid for any of the classes of vehicles or plants which the officer is required to drive;
  • Have Passed Occupational Trade Test for Drivers Grade III from Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or Ministry of Roads and Public Works;
  • Have a Refresher Driving Course lasting not less than one week from KIHBIT or any other recognized institution
  • Have First-Aid Refresher Certificate Course lasting not less than one (1) week from St. John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized institution;
  • Have passed Suitability Test for Drivers Grade III from Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology or Ministry of Roads and Public Works;
  • Have a Valid certificate of good conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations;
  • Be Proficient in computer applications; and
  • Have Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
