Qualifications

  • served for a minimum period of three (3) years at the grade of Chief Engineer Electrical, CSG 5;
  • Bachelors Degree in any of the following disciplines: Electrical/ Mechanical/Civil/ Mechatronics/Electronics Engineering, Telecommunication/Energy Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution;
  • a Masters Degree in any of the following disciplines: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Management, Energy Technology, Renewable Energy & Environmental Engineering, Sustainable Energy Engineering, Nuclear Science and Technology, Sustainable Energy Transitions, Environmental Sciences or equivalent qualification from a university recognised in Kenya;
  • membership to a relevant professional body;
  • demonstrated a high degree of professional competence, administrative and managerial capability; and
  • exhibited a thorough understanding of national goals, policies and objectives andability to relate them to electrical power development function.

Duties and responsibilities

  • overseeing development, implementation and review of policies, regulations, strategies standards and guidelines relating to electrical power development and transmission;
  • coordinating publication and dissemination of policies, strategies, standards and guidelines on electrical power;
  • providing advisory on electrical power development to other sectors;
  • overseeing national, regional and global collaborations on electrical power development;
  • promoting electrical power development, research and knowledge management;
  • overseeing power supply reliability to ensure improved customer service, protection of consumers and other stakeholder’s interests;
  • overseeing implementation, monitoring and evaluation of programmes and projects on electrical power development;
  • establishing linkages with relevant stakeholders in the development, review, consolidation and implementation of integrated national energy plans in respect of electrical power development;
  • providing technical and other capacity building support on electrical power development;
  • overseeing energy resource assessment on major power generation projects;
  • commissioning feasibility and pre-investment studies on electrical power projects;
  • coordinating the establishment of a database on electrical power generation andinfrastructure;
  • overseeing the appraisal and review of feasibility studies, project proposals and environmental impact assessments on electrical power development;
  • spearheading mobilization of resources for electrical power development programmes/projects;
  • overseeing implementation of measures for integration of variable renewable energy sources in the interconnected grid; and
  • collaborating with relevant agencies in protection of critical infrastructure for electrical power development.
