Assistant Underwriting Manager – Group Life Job

Purpose

Reporting to the Underwriting Manager – Group Life, the role holder will be tasked to evaluate, price and prescribe the terms to apply on risks proposed so as to deliver the desired loss ratio and profitability.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate risks proposed and prescribe rates and terms to commensurate with level of risk before acceptance
  • Prepare and process debits/credits endorsements for both renewals and new business
  • Review renewal notices based on claims experience
  • Issue and sign Policy documents
  • Provide quotations to intermediaries and clients
  • Process premium refunds to customers
  • Respond and attend to customer enquiries
  • Prepare monthly reports i.e. – Loss ratio, Renewal notices, lapse reports
  • Reconciliation of underwriting issues
  • Cancellation of policies due to non-payment of premiums

Generic Duties

  • Carry out performance appraisal, coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Participate in various meeting and committees.

Qualifications

Academic and Professional Requirements

  • Education    Bachelor’s Degree    
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Insurance, Actuarial or in a business-related field.

Professional Qualifications    

  • Diploma in Insurance

 Experience Required: 

Relevant experience    

  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience at managerial/supervisory level.
