Role Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Junior Accountant (Accounting Associate) to join our Kenya office. This role is pivotal in supporting our U.S. accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial records, and maintaining compliance with U.S. accounting standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in accounting principles and be adept at managing cross-border financial transactions who has advanced working experience in Bill.com, Spend and Expense and Sage Intacct. Work hours will closely mirror US-Eastern Standard Time.

Responsibilities
- Book payroll, fringe benefits, deposits, online transactions, and credit card transactions.
- Book all investment transactions and complete a monthly reconciliation.
- Work closely with the Development team to reconcile monthly donor revenues.
- Process Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable transactions, including the generation and tracking of invoices.
- Process payments in Bill.com, including check payments, ACH, and wire transfer payments.
- Reconcile monthly bank statements.
- Manage the prepaid expenses record keeping and reconciliation.
- Manage the fixed assets record keeping and reconciliation.
- Amortization of lease entry.
- Record, monitor, and reconcile accrued expenses.
- With the Controller, conduct new and ongoing training departments related using the accounting systems and support local and regionally based staff on updates in financial policies.
- Update Chart of Accounts in Sage Intacct and Bill.com.
- Assist for completion of annual Form 990.
- Assist with the preparation for annual audit.
- Maintain departmental records and systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills of the Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, strong understanding to U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) required.
- Proficiency in accounting software, especially Sage Intacct, Bill.com and Spend and Expense.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience with U.S. non-profit accounting standards and IRS Form 990.
- Prior involvement in U.S. financial non-profit audits.
- Knowledge of donor revenue reconciliation processes.
Salary and Benefits
- This is a full-time position located in Nairobi, Kenya, with a hybrid work model. The work hours will closely mirror US-Eastern Standard Time. Salary range is $17,407 – $20,000 USD and is commensurate with experience.
