ES Librarian Job ISK

The Elementary Librarian (EL) shares responsibility for the daily operation and supervision of the library and the implementation of all programs and services necessary to enable students and faculty to maximize use of the facility and its resources—particularly at the elementary school level. Performance is evaluated annually by the Director of Teaching and Learning, based on the ISK appraisal system for certified personnel, including the ISK Librarian Growth and Appraisal Rubric.

Core Responsibilities

Instruction

  • Supports instruction for Elementary School (ES) scheduled classes.
  • Supervises unstructured times in the library.

Faculty Support

Collaborates with ES faculty to:

  • Teach information literacy, literature appreciation, and research skills.
  • Provide material support (e.g., books, DVDs) to support classroom curricula.

Library Programs

Plans and implements all library programs related to elementary students, such as:

  • Visiting authors
  • Reading incentive programs

Collection Development

  • Manages the development and maintenance of the Elementary School Library Collection.
  • Ensures alignment with ISK Library Collection Guidelines.

Curriculum Development

  • Participates in the library’s two-year curriculum development cycle.
  • Collaborates with ES teachers to integrate library curriculum into broader instruction.
  • Supports the school’s educational mission through curriculum alignment.

Budget Management

  • Prepares budget proposals and purchase orders for elementary resources.
  • Submits all orders to the Head Librarian for approval.

Library Policies and Procedures

  • Contributes to the creation and updating of library procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensures policies are documented and communicated effectively.

Facility Management

  • Schedules and facilitates use of library space.
  • Builds a culture of learning, respect, and positive relationships with users.
  • Manages student behavior in the library.
  • Oversees the organization and upkeep of elementary areas.
  • Participates in all library design and renovation efforts.

Circulation Management

  • Oversees overdue notifications and end-of-term materials return for elementary staff and students.
  • Communication and Collaboration

Attends:

  • Meetings with library administrative supervisor
  • Library staff meetings
  • Elementary School staff meetings
  • Collaborates with colleagues to ensure effective library services.
  • Publications and Promotion
  • Develops promotional materials including:
  • Reading lists
  • Brochures
  • Bookmarks
  • Contributes to the library website and other communication channels.
  • General Library Use
  • Assists all ISK community members—students, staff, and parents—with effective use of library services and resources.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (required)
  • Library certification from an accredited institution (required)
  • Master’s degree in Library Science (preferred)

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant librarian experience
  • Experience in international schools (preferred)
