Duties and Responsibilities

  • Leading the planning, continued implementation and ongoing effectiveness of the SportPesa’s Compliance Program.
  • Developing, updating, reviewing and implementing processes and policies designed to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and other applicable international regulations that are applicable to SportPesa.
  • Work collaboratively with the heads of department to design, implement and monitor controls in all department.
  • Establish effective working relationships and build credibility within SportPesa to support a continued and scalable culture of ethics and compliance.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to Senior Management team on reports of noncompliance, risk, etc.
  • Actively monitor completion status for all required compliance training modules via the SAGE HRM system
  • Ensure dissemination and access for all staff to compliance policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate and support the annual compliance program tasks (testing, risk assessment, audits, trainings) with third parties and internal stakeholders
  • Assist with the development of auditing, monitoring and oversight processes related to identified risks.
  • Coordinate the monthly risk team (scheduling, agenda, meeting minutes, action items, risk register).
  • Oversee implementation of remediation and corrective action plans, resulting from audits, investigations, compliance reviews, and self-identified issues.
  • Build relationships that encourage staff and vendors to report suspected non-compliance issues or other improprieties without the fear of retaliation.
  • Design and implement the annual compliance work plan, initiatives and systems to prevent compliance issues from arising.
  • Complete a monthly dashboard for Senior Management providing a current status of key compliance indicators.
  • Develop/maintain product, regulatory, and operational knowledge for assigned businesses, with focus on provider practice standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain, create and review operational policy and procedure development as needed.
  • Support the delivery of targeted compliance training and communications.
  • Conduct compliance reviews of marketing materials, regulated documents and other external materials.

Qualifications

  • A Law Degree from any recognized University.
  • A Diploma from the Kenya School of Law or an exemption by the Council of Legal Education.
  • Admission to the Roll of Advocates.
  • Must not have any pending complaints with the Advocates Complaints Commission, the Disciplinary Committee or adverse report from current and previous employer(s).
  • 3+ years of experience working in an area of compliance, experience in betting and gaming industry will be a plus.
  • Extensive commercial experience, including drafting and negotiating and other services agreements, licenses and strategic transactions.
  • A current practicing certificate, in good standing, to practice law Kenya.
  • Previous experience, especially in betting industry, preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of local betting regulations.
  • Intellectual flexibility and business-oriented attitude.
  • Creative and practical legal advisor who can communicate information accurately and completely, while being concise and digestible for non-lawyers.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and manage deadlines in a fast-paced and demanding work environment.
  • Thoughtful and persuasive interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain strong working relationships; experience preparing and delivering information to multiple audiences.
  • Collaborative team player combined with ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong legal analysis and research skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and enhance team productivity.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others, understand process flows and correlating platforms, recommend options and implement solutions.
  • Planning, organization, and implementation skills – experience managing multiple concurrent initiatives.
