The Tax & Finance Compliance Manager role at Africa Region (Shipping & Logistics) is responsible for ensuring full tax compliance, accurate financial reporting, and adherence to IFRS/GAAP standards. The role oversees tax filings, reconciliations, audits, and management of accounts payable and receivable. It also involves maintaining strong internal controls, using accounting systems such as QuickBooks or Sage, and advising management on tax risks and optimization opportunities. The position may require regional travel across selected African countries to support compliance operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage full tax compliance: tax filings, payments, reports, tax database updates, and resolution of tax discrepancies.
- Identify legal tax optimization opportunities and advise management on tax risks, regulation updates, and financial strategy impacts.
- Maintain accurate financial bookkeeping and bank &account reconciliations.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements in line with IFRS/GAAP.
- Support external audits and strengthen internal financial controls and risk mitigation.
- Oversee accounts payable (vendor payments) and accounts receivable.
- Operate and maintain accounting systems (QuickBooks, Sage) for daily finance operations and reporting.
- Ensure full adherence to local financial laws, corporate policies, and industry compliance standards.
- Required business trips to Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Ghana, Ivory Coast etc.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
- CPA or equivalent professional certification preferred.
- Minimum 5+ years relevant tax & finance experience; shipping/logistics industry background strongly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of East African tax regulations and financial compliance rules.
- Proficient in QuickBooks and Sage; strong analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Fluent in English; basic French is an added advantage.
- Able to work independently, with strict confidentiality of sensitive financial data.
