Productivity in your professional life is highly dependent on your personal life. When you are happy, you are more likely to do more as compared to when you are stressed or undergoing depression.

Here are ways you can avoid depression in order to succeed.

1. Get enough sleep.

It sounds simple enough but lack of sleep can lead to irritability, fatigue, stress and depression. Make it a point to sleep for at least 6 hours daily.

Now even though your body doesn’t show it and you still have energy the first few days, after a week or so of getting less than 5 hours of sleep, your body will burn out.

This happens when your brain is tired and so it affects normal functioning of your body. Not to mention, you will be unable to do anything constructive which will not help you grow your business or in your career.

2. Exercise.

Most people associate exercising to losing weight which is not necessarily true. Studies show that exercising can also serve to boost ones moods.

Something as simple as taking a 30 minutes’ walk every day can go a long way. Being happy prevents depression.

3. Find passion in life.

Nothing will boost your mood like having a purpose. Do you know what your passion is?

Find something you enjoy doing that gives you a sense of purpose. This is a good way to become happy and for some it is even a way of making extra income.

For example, if you love baking, you can bake and sale what you make to get a source of income.

4. Volunteer

Volunteer work is very important, not only does it help improve someone else’s life, but it also goes a long way in making you feel good.

The act of assisting others is a good way to help you feel better. Even if you are unemployed it is important to know that there are people in worse situations.

Visit the sick in hospital, a children’s home, join an organisation like the YMCA or even help the street kids.

5. Don’t take on too much

This is very important; most people make the mistake of trying to do too much at once. This will only lead to stress.

Instead take on only what you can handle without stretching yourself too much. There is no need to start 4 businesses at once if you cannot handle it. Instead, start two and after they are up and running you can start the other two.

6. Stay hopeful.

Even though you have been jobless for the past 2 years, you should not lose hope. For some it takes longer. Find out what the problem could be, maybe it’s your CV, Cover Letter the jobs you are applying for.

7. Take care of your body.

This is in terms of diet and drug use. Sick people get depressed more than healthy people. So why do things that will make you sick.

Eat good healthy food that will boost your immunity to avoid health issues. Avoid drug use if possible as it will lead to terminal illnesses which will then lead to stress and depression.

In our daily lives it is so easy to slip into depression without knowing it. So take the steps to ensure you are a happier person because this will lead to productivity at work or in your businesses which then leads to growth.
