Our client operates a fast growing network of convenience stores and quick service restaurants within petrol stations across Kenya. 

 Main KPIs

  • The operational manager will lead and manage a team of store managers and supervisors.
  • He/she will be responsible for the daily operations of the stores. Including sales, stock management, cost and quality control.
  • Coordinate between head office and be the link between suppliers and store management.
  • Be proactive and entrepreneurial manager with an assertive attitude.
  • A team player that is continuous looking for opportunities to improve the portfolio of products on sale and grow the unit and gross margin of the stores with a view to increasing value for the shareholders.
  • Have good understanding of the local retail dynamics in the convenience store business and able to develop and implement marketing strategies and promotions in a short space of time.
  • Demonstrate a track record of getting things done and delivery of promises to shareholders.

 Responsibilities

  • Ensure all store operations are conducted in accordance with HSSE policies
  • Continuously increasing the monthly gross margin and reducing the monthly OPEX of each store with a steady increase in each store EBITDA month after month.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with suppliers with a view to increasing credit terms and reducing product cost and gaining financial support for marketing promotions at the stores,
  • Develop an in depth understanding of each competitor and the stores operating in the trade area of each store.
  • Developing, Implementing and tracking store promotions
  • Tracking sales goals and reporting results on daily, weekly and monthly basis
  • Focus on optimizing the supply chain, reducing stock in the stores and keep the pilferage to zero at each store.
  • Assessing strengths and weaknesses of store locations and achieve value potential of each store accordingly
  • Visiting outlets on a regular basis to ensure compliance with housekeeping, SOP procedures, marketing promotions, shelf presentation, and grow monthly EBITDA per store
  • Ensuring all operations are conducted in an appropriate SOP, cost-effective way
  • Overseeing procurement and managing inventory to have low Working Capital
  • Responsible for acquiring the required licenses for each outlet
  • Successfully recruit, select, develop and continuously motivate and improve store staff performance

Qualifications

  • Must have a Bachelor’s /Master’s degree in business administration or a related field.
  • Retail FMCG experience of 5+ years, with at least 3 at a strategic management level.
  • Successful track record as a sales representative or sales manager, consistently meeting or exceeding targets.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, present and influence credibly and effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Have a positive attitude, is entrepreneurial, ambitious & result focused and has strong communication skills, coupled with sharp analytical ability.
  • Excellent MS Office skills.
  • Excels in analyzing data and can tell the story behind the data
  • Strong decision-making abilities
  • Team player with both external and internal stakeholders (Customers, Board, Banks, Department heads, Government, Store staff, Suppliers, Contractors and Marketing, Recruitment Agencies etc.)
  • Ability to successfully recruit, select, develop and lead and motivate store teams
