HR Advice on TOP 7 Highest Paying Jobs For Entry Job Seekers in Kenya
By Jane Gakaria,
Jobs, jobs, jobs. That’s what seems to be on everyone’s mind these days. Its either you’re looking for the job or you know someone somewhere who’s looking for one. It seems jobs have become a somewhat rare commodity; it’s no wonder a lot of people are deciding to venture into self-employment.
That said, I spoke to several HR Experts – Paul Oduk HR Manager with Rose Avenue Consultants, Beatrice Chuchu HR at Outrival & Martin Githiga, HR Officer with Corporate Staffing Services – on what they thought were the highest paying jobs for entry level job seekers and here’s what they had to say.
1.Finance jobs.
The number of financial and investment institutions in the country is rapidly increasing. Add to that the fact that most business premises need a financial officer be it a hospital, bank or even a school. Most jobs for entry level job seekers tend to range from Kshs30-60.
2. UN/NGO Jobs.
The UN (United Nations) is perceived by many a Kenyan to be a prestigious and well respected institution world over. That said, entry level positions with high level NGOs are commonly on the rise. Kenyans want to work for such organizations like the UN since it is assumed that they remunerate their employees well and they get the chance to travel often. Salaries range between Ksh40-60 depending on the actual institution.
3. Banking Jobs.
Banking jobs tend to be diversified and offer many options for new job seekers hence their appeal. Banking jobs can range from management, customer service, accounting etc. Plus Kenyans tend to believe that banks pay well. Again, pay depends on the particular institution and your job title, but someone can earn anywhere between Kshs 35-60 .
4. Online jobs and writing opportunities.
Kenyans are quickly embracing technology and most are actually applying for jobs online. The other factor that could have contributed to this rise is the fact that there are many online companies cropping up, who are in need of some online writers and bloggers. Their pay ranges between Ksh25-60.
5. Creatives.
The likes of ‘faiba’ creator Mike Muthiga pop up. Creatives whose talents don’t have well developed industries to nurture them are taking it upon themselves to start their own companies and pocket millions in the process. Mr. Mike Muthiga actually pocketed a cool 3.4 million for the faiba ads.
6. Self-employment.
Closely linked to the point No. 5 is self employment. There are a lot of young people who are shunning jobs in the corporate world and are opening up their own business ventures. Some of the common success stories we’ve heard from are from the agribusiness sector and IT (Information Technology) sector.
Some are actually going a step further and charging people for their consultancy services or any training they give hence earning extra income. Their pay ranges 50-100 thousand per month.
7. Management and Graduate trainee.
Management and graduate trainee jobs are quite common and some do pay quite well, as much as Ksh40 . Depending on the size of the company. These positions are quite beneficial to the employee as you get paid as your trained.
In conclusion, no matter your job or how much you earn, focus on the bigger picture and realize that it is a stepping stone to greater things and a good way to build your career.
