Photos of The Day: Meet First Female Boeing 787 Dream Liner Kenya Airways Pilot

At a time when young women may be deceived to think that their good looks will determine whether they will make it in life or fail miserably, enter Captain Irene Koki who is a true indicator that no matter how beauty may be significant, you will also need brains to make it in life.

She has conquered all to become the first female captain in Africa to fly the Boeing 787 Dream liner, piloting Kenya Airways and for that she makes it on our Photos of the day Segment.

At the age of 17 years, she began her training at Oklahoma City flight school in parallel with academic activities.

In a interview with The Standard a while back she says she went through a lot of interviews to land a job at Kenya Airways. “I did five interviews that got me the job: an oral interview, an aptitude test, a psychometric test, a medical test and finally the flight test.”

She started flying in 1993 during my first courses in piloting. “I remember having flown with my father in London when I was eight years old and I was sitting with him in the cockpit during the entire route. Since then, I knew that it was what I wanted to do”, she is quoted in a past interview
