Meet K24’s Anchor Who Made Kenyan Men Start Watching News Instead Of World Cup
Have you seen the newest kid in the media industry? Some say she might be the next Julie Gichuru.
Her name is Karen Karimi Knaust she joined Eric Njoka to spice up K24’s prime time news. I must say she is such an outstanding individual with such great charm that makes viewers glued to their TV.
But who is she? I seek to know.
Several blogs describe her as the ‘new News Anchor that has made Men around the Country start watching News more than the World Cup games’
On Twitter she describes herself as senior news anchor at K24tv, a Reporter, God fearing daughter, a sister, an auntie, a Proud Child of Africa and an Animal lover.
In a recent interview with Lilian Kaivilu, she disclose who she is. “I am 27; Knaust is my father’s name. I am a half-caste. My father is German and my mother is half Kikuyu, half Meru,” she tells Lilian adding that, she can speak fluent Swahili, German and English.
“I can comprehend a bit of Kikuyu. I wouldn’t mind reading news in Kiswahili,” she says
In case you were wondering what the pretty faced anchor studied for, she is a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource and she has never worked in the media industry before.
“I have a bachelor’s degree in human resource and a diploma in public relations. Prior to joining K24 as a news anchor I used to run Rocawear, a clothing line in Mombasa with my cousin Charles Mwai.”
So, how did she land the job at K24? She reveals that, “I applied for a job as a business news anchor. I did my screen test and was called after four weeks and asked whether I would anchor main news. I worked with Mediamax Group Managing Editor Peter Opondo to get to where I am,” says Ms.Knaust.
Like other professionals looking to excel in their career, Ms. Knaust says she has people in the media industry that she looks up to and her list includes Julie Gichuru, Smirti Vidiyarthi and Belinda Obura.
“They are professional even in their dress code. My favourite Kiswahili anchors are Lulu Hassan and Swaleh Mdoe,” she tells Lilian.
Karen Karimi believes working hard is what has molded her into the woman she is today.
