Is A Career in Real Estate Right For You? What A Job in Real Estate in Kenya Entails

Real estate Business in Kenya is becoming one of the ‘hottest’ industries to join. Many Kenyans are minting millions from the business, as self employment seems like the best option.

With the upcoming  opening of the Grand Two Rivers Mall by Real Estate and Business Mogul, Chris Kirubi on 14th February 2017, I would like to share with how you what a job in real estate in Kenya entails.

What does it take to get a Job in Real Estate in Kenya?

You might be asking yourself whether or not one needs to go to school in order to get a job in Real estate.

The University of Nairobi is dedicated to providing an Education in Real Estate.  They have a Bachelor of Real estate Programme that covers Statistics, Architecture, the Law, Urban Planning, Land Economics, etc.

The demand for good quality housing is very high in Kenya today and qualified real estate agents are the ones who are getting the big deals.

That said, an Education in Real estate, Land Economics, a Business related field or Accounting is important, if you want to launch a career in the field.

On the flipside, some real estate Agents are very good sales people who have no background in Real Estate Education.

Below is a Job Description for a Real Estate Job in Kenya we recently advertised.

  • The sales representative is responsible for actively prospecting and acquiring new accounts.
  • Producing innovative ideas and sales strategies to meet objectives.
  • Selling and renting various properties of the company listed on the company’s property list.
  • Identify business opportunities and pinpoint problem areas to further increase sales volume.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of market competition and align work with strategic goals.

The Real Estate Sales agent is required to be a Diploma or Bachelor holder in Sales and Marketing.

Real Estate Business  , like any other Business/ Career requires other professionals such as HR officers, Receptionists and Accountants.

Some of the Pure Functions of a Real Estate Professional

  • Conducting fundamental company & investment opportunity research and analysis in real estate,
  • Real estate deal structuring and capital budgeting,
  • Connecting real estate market research to real estate investment and guiding an investment through the development process,
  • Learning of investment analysis in private equity, structured products, equities & fixed income,
  • Financial modelling and data analysis,
  • Analyzing historical and projected financial statements & investment data,
  • Preparing written reports and verbal presentations,
  • Conducting country, industry and capital markets research,
  • Participating in the evaluation, formulation and implementation of investment strategies,
  • Contributing in investment meetings and review sessions among other functions.

Below are some jobs you can find in Kenya within the Real Estate Industry together with the requirements

1.Contract Manager- Hospitality, Property Management or other related field

2. Real Estate Officer- Bachelor’s Degree in Real Estate/Land Economics

3. Property Manager (175-200K) – Degree in Business Management/Land Economics

4. Real Estate Sales Executives (45-60K) – Experience in sales
