Nyayo Tea Zones Development Corporation (NTZDC) was established as a state Corporation under a Legal Gazette Notice No. 30 of 2002, revoking Legal Gazette Notice No. 265 of 1986, with the aim of promoting forest conservation by providing buffer zones of tea and fuelwood to check against human encroachment into the gazetted forests.

The Corporation’s operations are spread over nineteen (19) zones and two factories across Kenya, in the East and West of Rift Valley. The Corporation’s major activities are in tea growing, tea factory operations and local sales distribution of value added teas. The Corporation seeks to recruit qualified and competent Kenyan citizens to fill the following positions:

Reporting to the Regional Manager, job holder is responsible for management of the one to achieve profitability through practice of proper agronomic practices, cost controls and staff management.

Tasks for the Tea Zone Manager Job

  • Managing the Zonal Office in accordance with approved policies and procedures of the Corporation.
  • Monitoring the performance of all green leaf production units and forest conservation in the assigned zone.
  • Enhancing quality standard of green leaf and forest conservation as per policies and specifications.
  • Implementing agriculture and forest conservation plans and strategies as per approved policies.
  • Participating in the preparation of budget and control through effective utilization of available resources in the zone.
  • Preparing and implementing approved scheduled work plans for all field activities.
  • Ensuring timely availability of required supplies/inputs for all farms/blocks for timely achievement of set performance targets.
  • Monitoring and reviewing the production and forest conservation level against set targets.
  • Training employees on production method, process standards and specifications of green leaf & forest conservation.
  • Ensuring field equipment are repaired and calibrated.
  • Coordinating and organizing for timely collection and delivery of quality green leaf from buying centers.
  • Liaising with KTDA and other factories on enforcing green leaf quality.
  • Supervision, appraising staff and identifying their development and training needs.
  • Preparing timely and accurate reports, and distributing them to appropriate users.
  • Planning and operating the transport systems, including proper maintenance of transport fleet for green leaf collection and delivery to the factories.
  • Planning and coordinating agricultural and forest development projects in the zone, including monitoring the expansion of tea growing areas and their respective hectares.
  • Ensuring establishment of the seedlings nurseries in the respective zones.
  • Effectively managing the labour issues and the welfare of employees in the zone.
  • Controlling the stores operations as per established policies and procedures.
  • Promoting positive relation in the community and participating in the development committees in the zone.
  • Approving payment vouchers as per established systems and approved levels.
  • Coordinating the preparation of muster roll and payment of wages in the assigned zone.
  • Performing any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Tea Zone Manager Job Requirements

  • BSc. (Agro Forestry) or equivalent qualifications.
  • Diploma in Management or equivalent from a recognized institution is an added advantage.
  • 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to inspire and mobilize staff.
  • Capacity to work anywhere.
  • A team player.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Computer literate.
