Reporting to: Firefighting Foreman, Engineer, Operations Manager,

Description of Function

• Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
• Assemble, install, repair and maintain the firefighting safety equipments & Sprinkler system.
• Inspect Fire Fighting systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.

Roles

• Firefighting Charge hand is responsible for the administration and supervision of the firefighting safety equipments, Fire suppression, hazardous material response, rescue operations and emergency medical services.
• In the absence of the Engineer, the chargehand acts as a supervisor and assumes the duties as officer in charge if first on scene of emergency.
• Responsible for the group of Pipe Fighters (Fire Fighting).

Fire Fighting Charge Hand Job Responsibilities

• Implements department goals and objectives, establishes work priorities, schedules and coordinates work to be accomplished per shift.
• Responsible for daily log, emergency calls and reports, overtime and injury reports.
• Responds to alarms; performs variety of firefighting functions, including Incident Command Officer.

• Participates in daily training exercises and classroom lectures and prepares and conducts trainings for department, when assigned.
• Conducts fire inspections, supervises shift inspections, assigns work projects and approves completed work.
• Conducts demonstrations, tours awareness TBT on fire safety, fire prevention, CPR, fire extinguishers, first aid and other subjects to the employees.
• Responds to general public complaints, requests for information and guidance, cooperates with surrounding communities in firefighting and rescue efforts.
• Maintain discipline and insures that personnel follow department rules and regulations.
• Responsible for cleanliness of workplace and maintenance of apparatus, tools, equipment and all other
• Firefighting safety equipments.
• Accomplish such other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Key Skills

• Able to follow, read and use the drawings for firefighting system.
• Proficient management and personnel skills in fire department administration.
• Effective communication, oral and written, with supervisors, peers and public.
• Understanding and following work rules, and suggested operating guidelines.
• Knowledge of national, state and local laws and fire/safety codes.
• Knowledge of fire protection systems, water supply, building construction, direct fire and rescue operations, disaster control and extinguishment of combustible and flammable materials.
• Skills in firefighting, fire inspection, fire scene command and public relations.

Fire Fighting Charge Hand Job Qualifications

• Must complete Secondary School Leaving Certificate or ITI in fitter
• Qualification certification in Firefighting system and codes
• Able to read and write English and knowledge of other regional languages. Experience
• Must have 3 to 8 years’ experience in Plum
