5 Popular Careers That Are Dependent On Your Age

You should not let your age prevent you from following your dream when it comes to the career you choose.  However, there are some careers where your age actually matters and after you get to a certain age, you can no longer do the job.

In this article see some of the common careers that you cannot be in after a certain age.

1. Cabin Crew

This is one of the careers that you don’t have to go to college to get into. The minimum education qualification for a cabin crew job is a high school education.

Most airlines offer on the job training so there is no previous experience required either. You just have to be above 21 years.

Depending on the airline you are working for, a flight attendant earns as much as $ 1500 per month which is roughly equivalent to Ksh. 151,000.

The only drawback is, when it comes to a career as a flight attendant, a lot of emphasis is put on your looks.

Whereas, most airlines don’t have a specific maximum age limit for flight attendants it is very rare to find someone in their 40s working as an attendant. Usually someone with this kind of experience goes into training or other administrative jobs at the airline.

2. Modeling

Another career that has some age restrictions is modeling, yes there are some models who have managed to continue working after turning 50 but they are not that many.

In Kenya, most of the models you see promoting products on billboards or magazines are all young. This means that the older you get, the number of job offers you get significantly reduces. This is because as a profession, modeling depends a lot on your looks.

3. Being a DJ

This is also one of those jobs that you cannot do in your 60s unlike teaching or medicine.

Over the last few years, becoming a DJ is more acceptable as a career choice because of the likes of DJ Pierra Makena, DJ Tabz, DJ Joe Mfalme and many more who have shown that it is possible to make a living as a DJ.

However, I have never seen an old DJ performing at a club or event, most of the time it is young people who get offered gigs.

4. Acting

Even though there are some people above 50 still acting today, this is a profession where the opportunities reduce as you get older.

This means that if you want to have a career in acting you need to start early.

This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t consider a career in any of the above; you just have to ensure that you prepare for a time when you won’t be able to do the job anymore.
