Special Assets Manager Job. KCB Bank

Reporting to the Head Special Assets, the position will be responsible for the implementation of the Special Assets Sector strategy including delivery of turnaround strategies to a portfolio of predominantly Corporate customers experiencing financial stress.

The role holder will make recommendation on cases above discretion, monitoring the objectives, strategies and actions that need to be adopted to address business-risk issues, reduce the Bank’s risk and achieve long lasting turnaround solutions so that the customer can be returned to acceptable Credit Risk profile.

Responsibilities

  • To implement the Special Assets Sector strategy in line with the overall Corporate Banking Strategy; to address Business risk issues in Corporate portfolio in conjunction with the Corporate Unit Heads/ Relationship Managers.
  • Review and understand complex Early Alert and Recovery Corporate client’s relationshipsBe the reference point for Corporate Relationship and Credit teams for discussions on cases or where more general input from turnaround “specialist” is required.
  • Support the Corporate and Credit Director in the early identification of problem accounts.
  • Communicate key Risks on Deals both internally and externally in a professional manner.
  • Manage customer relationships ensuring Business and Banking risk issues are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Lead detailed negotiations with customers, obtain commitment to implement appropriate strategies and actions to improve Business and Bank risk concerns. Monitor customers’ progress by appraising results revealed by their reporting.
  • Sanction new lending propositions, strategies and actions demonstrating well thought out decisions and judgement for deals within discretion, undertake analysis and recommendations for decision above discretion.
  • Proactively develop and manage relationships with key stakeholders including regulators, build and develop relationship across the bank to breakdown silos and maximize business growth. Represent the Bank in lenders meetings for syndicated or problem accounts.
  • Develop a network of Professionals contacts in order to maximize benefits in the development of Turnaround/Exit strategies & solutions.
  • Manage the Service Level Agreements with the relevant stakeholders including Accountants, Turnaround managers, Solicitors and Property professionals in preparation of instructions and review of results.
  • Ensure compliance to the Bank’s policies, procedures and regulatory requirements. Ensure sufficient IFRS9 and Regulatory impairment is recognized for portfolio under control.
  • Share ‘Lessons Learned’ with Corporate Relationship and Credit teams.

Qualifications

  • University Degree preferably in a Business related field from an Institution recognized by Commission of Higher Education.
  • Master’s degree or professional qualifications in a relevant field preferably CPA/ ACCA /CFA/ AKIB will be an added advantage.
  • Have at least 8 years’ management experience in Special Assets Unit / Business Support & Recovery Unit; having had 6 years’ experience with below key responsibilities:
    1. Credit and Risk Management
    2. Relationship Management
    3. Financial Analysis and Business Performance Management
    4. Corporate Portfolio management: Credit / Loan Restructuring / Legal & Security Structures
    5. Management of Delinquent Accounts / Recoveries
    6. Leadership and Team management
  • Thorough knowledge of Corporate Banking Products & Services with extensive Banking Industry knowledge.
  • Excellent interpersonal, and negotiation skills with the ability to network and develop strong business relations.
  • A good understanding of Risk, Compliance policies and procedures; Products, Credit Policies, Standards and Procedures
