Duma Works is recruiting a  Chief Operations Officer for one of its clients in Nairobi.

What is Generation? Generation is the world’s largest, fastest scaling global youth employment program, providing young adults with the opportunity to launch successful careers and change their life trajectories.

Our goal is to deliver for young adults and employers simultaneously: supporting the personal and financial well-being of young people, while helping businesses acquire entry-level hires who are higher productivity, higher quality, retain longer, and are faster to promotion than peers.

We have had two major funders to date USAID and the East Africa Trade and Industry Hub. Generation Kenya has a dedicated local team of 26 people and is supported by a local

Generation team of 3 McKinsey consultants and a larger global team providing curriculum, data and logistical expert support. As we build out this local entity and the scale of the Generation program, we are seeking a Generation COO to oversee our organization’s ongoing operations and procedures.

Generation Kenya is seeking a Chief Operations Officer to provide overall operational direction and leadership. Reporting to the Generation Kenya CEO s/he will liaise with Generation Kenya, Global Generation leadership to formulate, drive, and execute on strategy going forward. The goal of the COO position is to secure the functionality of business to drive extensive and sustainable growth.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure high-quality implementation and running operations of Generation program across sectors and geographies, in accordance with program specifications and funding limitations, including:
  • Management of Generation Kenya program-specific managers by encouraging maximum performance and dedication
  • Set comprehensive goals for performance and growth
  • Evaluate performance by analyzing and interpreting data and metrics
  • Set strategic direction of scale up of operations as to deal with operational challenges in a proactive way
  • Establish policies that promote company culture and vision
  • Manage relationships with delivery partners and vendors
  • Works closely with the business development and stakeholder director by supporting fundraising activities through ensuring a return on investment for all stakeholders
  • Work closely with Generation Kenya CEO, contributing insights and experiences as we continue improving the Generation model throughout Kenya
  • Communicate consistently with CEO, including, regular check-ins, drafting weekly update emails and leading bi-weekly calls

Specific Responsibilities

Manage a team of program managers for a high-quality and successful implementation of their respective Generation programs- Operations, Training, and Quality, Finance and

Administration and Data and Communication

  • Manage the budget for overall Generation program implementation and ensure all targets and timelines for operational scale up are met
  • Conduct daily check ins and check outs to help program managers with their operational responsibilities, solve for immediate issues on the ground and prioritize where needed
  • Lead weekly Operational meetings & identify areas of risk and take steps to reduce vulnerabilities
  • Give feedback throughout and hold performance evaluations of program managers on a regular basis
  • Collaborate with the CEO and global team to evaluate program against agreed upon objectives
  • Ensure appropriate organization and staffing, and grow team as required

Identify program and process improvement opportunities:

  • Continuously look for opportunities where process efficiency gains can be made and implement solutions, including automation / technology solutions
  • Ensure data on candidates or program is maintained and analyzed with the objective of improving program
  • Proactively suggest program improvement opportunities to the CEO
  • Collaborate with the CEO and global team to evaluate program against agreed upon objectives

Ensure all operational funder demands are met:

  • Safeguard branding of funders is in adherence with their specific branding guidelines
  • Safeguard key requirement such as gender equality and safety of students during training
