FourWays Junction Residents Association (FJRA) is a residents’ association that oversees the management of the FourWays Junction Estate comprising of approximately 700 homes along Kiambu Road. FJRA is looking for a Swimming Pool Lifeguard/Pool Attendant. Reporting to the Estate manager, he/she will be responsible for safety and maintenance.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY TASKS

  • Safety of members and visitors at the pool
  • Interact with the guests responsibly and welcome all users of the facilities.
  • Promote a positive image of the swimming pool by providing high quality customer service.
  • Ensure that proper pool testing has taken place prior to guests using the facility.
  • Ensure all Guests are registered prior to using the pool and are aware of the rules and regulations
  • Maintain a vigilant watch of the swimming pool areas.
  • Observe and evaluate any dangerous conditions or unsafe activities and take the necessary action.
  • Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and administer first aid/emergency care.
  • Report accidents, injuries and unsafe work conditions.
  • Inspect the pool safety equipment and report any damage or malfunction.
  • Ensure that all areas are being used in the correct manner by the public.
  • Plan, deliver and record swimming lessons ensuring adherence to the lesson plans.
  • Ensure swimming lesson programs are safe and appropriate to the participants
  • Ensure lost property is handled and recorded in line with procedures.
  • Open and close the pool area, ensuring that the pool area is empty before closing.
  • Always follow and enforce the pool’s safe operating procedures.

Pool Maintenance

  • Measure and document Pool Chemical Levels
  • Regularly clean the pool by cleaning the filters as well as to using the skimmer.
  • Inspect the changing rooms and pool area to ensure high level of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Troubleshoot basic filter malfunctions and chemical imbalances.
  • Development/Updating of appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Support in the development or updating of pool management policies and procedures.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

  • Minimum education qualification – Diploma Certificate. Certificates under the Lifeguard training programs, swimming instructor training and first aid training.
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a similar role at a busy facility.
  • Must be a strong and experienced swimmer with proven lifesaving and first aid skills.
  • Ability to remain vigilant and monitor swimmers and the safety conditions.
  • Deep knowledge of pool equipment, pool cleaning materials and related occupational hazards.
  • Thorough knowledge of pool maintenance and safety precautions.
  • Attention to detail in recording pool attendees and training lessons.
  • Good communication skills – Able communicate (verbal & written) clearly and courteously.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision.
