Sanergy is an award-winning social venture based in Nairobi, Kenya. We undertake three exciting lines of work:

• We provide safe, sustainable sanitation services to residents living in urban informal settlements of Nairobi and Kisumu using end-to-end non-sewered sanitation solutions. Watch here!

Using technologies developed in-house, we upcycle the waste into insect-based protein for animal feed, organic fertilizer, and biomass fuel. Operational since 2011, Sanergy serves over 140,000 urban residents with safe sanitation services every day. Sanergy collects and treats over 12,000T of waste per year, and successfully sells its agricultural end-products to farmers in over 20 counties in Kenya, who see improved yields and increased incomes. At the same time, we have built a team of over 400 employees from diverse backgrounds who solve diverse problems, but all embody the drive, creativity, teamwork, and passion that make us achieve our goals. About the role

Sanergy recently launched an Innovation team which sits at the intersection of Sales, R&D, and Expansion. The Innovation team’s goal is to uncover the next big breakthroughs for the organization. This is typically done through a process of research and analysis, and then the piloting and scaling of ideas. We’re a team that prides ourselves on moving swiftly, hitting our goals, and being willing to iterate as needed. The Innovation Associate will have a generalist’s skillset, and cover the two main functions of research and implementation. You’ll work in a highly collaborative and entrepreneurial environment and play an intricate role in figuring out how to turn insights into business opportunities. The person who will thrive in this role is someone who can research effectively — always knowing the right next question to ask, someone who is hungry to learn and grow in their career, and lastly, someone who is a doer, an executor who gets things done. The Innovation Associate will report to the Head of Innovation.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Drive opportunities in new areas through an understanding of customer needs, habits, and perceptions developed through desk and field research: interviews, customer feedback, and market research
• Assist the Head of Innovation in the implementation of revenue-generating pilots as well as their evaluation, focusing on cost effectiveness, feasibility, and opportunity for scale
• Pilot and operationalize opportunities to increase revenue streams through existing and/or new customer segments and product variations
• Ability to manage tasks and priorities in an organized and timely manner

 Qualifications

• At least 5 years work experience
• Preference towards experience in startups or consultancies
• Excellent communicator in English and Swahili
• Proficient with the Google Suite — Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets
• Bonus if you have a STEM background, but not compulsory
• Past experience in WASH, agribusiness or manufacturing sectors preferred.
