JOB TITLE:    GENERAL MANAGER

Overview of the Position

Our client, an emerging vibrant mid-tier group of companies, with operations in the hospitality, telecom and real-estate sectors, is seeking to recruit a competent General Manager in charge of ensuring that operations in all component companies are seamless and that the business processes in each company run reliably and efficiently to achieve optimal business results. He/she will be responsible for accounting for all business activities, enhancing efficiency, driving sales, and improving revenue, supporting staff development, maintaining relationships with clients, and enhancing the organization’s image to meet overall growth.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Develop and recommend to the Directors long term strategies, business plans, and annual operating budgets in line with the company vision to improve the overall effectiveness of its operations.
  • Take lead in shaping the ‘Mavericks Culture’ and work environment by promoting 3 core elements: (1) the prevailing performance standards that set the pace and quality of people’s efforts; (2) the business concepts that define what the company is like and how it operates; and (3) the people concepts and values that prevail and define what it’s like to work with us.
  • Attract & develop star performers – attract and/retain talented managers, develop them quickly, and keep them challenged and effectively deployed.
  • Focus on lean management, operational excellence, and continuous improvement programs to improve quality, production, efficiency, time utilization and cost
  • Review the group (and each company’s) progress against set Annual Work Plan & Budgets, achieved goals, and liaise with top management to develop better strategic plans for operational activity. For companies that are lagging behind target, liaise with ground team to turn around.
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures and Policies aligned to the business strategy to enhance efficiency
  • Lead frequent market and competitor analysis to identify business opportunities market gaps and devise ways to bridge the gaps and maximize on the opportunities for revenue growth
  • Participate in the development and setting of business targets in order to achieve company objectives
  • Research and identify growth opportunities and implement growth strategies.
  • Review and support the company’s marketing strategy to improve revenue
  • Develop and generate regular reports which are professional, concise, and clear, to be reviewed by the CEO on a regular basis.
  • Investigate customer complaints and product, process non-conformities and offer improvement solutions and recommendations.
  • Actively seek out continuous improvement opportunities and implementation in the overall operations, while working proactively to seek out cost reductions.
  • Any other duty assigned from time to time.

Required skills and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in, Business Management, Strategic Management, or any related training.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in a similar position
  • Ability to communicate effectively across team members and manage the various functional roles within the organization to ensure all team members are meeting their targets.
  • A highly analytical individual with the ability to gather, analyze and evaluate facts and with the ability to prepare and present concise oral and written reports;
  • Demonstrate excellent managerial and leadership skills and an effective communicator
  • Personal integrity with good work ethics and knowledge of principles of good corporate governance;
  • Ability to establish and retain effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience working in hospitality, telecom and/or real estate industry will be an added advantage.
