What Do You Know About This Company/Organization?
Employers love to ask, “What do you know about this company?” in the job interview. There are a few things they want to hear, and a few things they do not want to hear. So in this article, I’m going to reveal how to give a great answer to this question to help you secure that dream job.
Let’s get started; why Interviewers Ask “What Do You Know About Our Company?”
The first reason is they want to make sure you did some research before applying. They don’t want someone who’s applying to 200 positions per day without even looking or caring what type of job they get. Why? Well, employers want someone who will be motivated and work hard in their job. And they figure if you have thought about your job search and have specific reasons for applying, then you’re more likely to really like their job.
Now that we have covered that, here is how you prepare for this common interview question;
1. Conduct research
This should be the starting point. What do you know about the company? The information that you learn can help you answer their questions with their values, industry and history in mind, inform the types of questions you should be asking them during the meeting and, most importantly, provide valuable insight into whether you think you would be a good fit for the company.
By examining the company’s website and social media platforms, as well as any mentions of their products or services in the media, you should be able to learn more about the company and its target demographic.
2. Prepare key talking points.
From the information that you have gathered during research, you can then begin choosing key details to mention when answering this question. Take special note of any major accomplishments or impending product launches. Additionally, the insight you now have will help you answer other questions more effectively during the interview and even assist you when formulating questions of your own.
3. Focus on the positive
Focus on talking about the offerings of the organization, important milestones in the company’s history and the aspects of the brand’s mission and values that align with your career or personal goals.
4. Highlight your interest and enthusiasm
Throughout the interview, you should make it clear to the hiring manager that you are extremely interested in the position. You can help demonstrate this by possessing a strong understanding of the organization and how your personal strengths could help the company accomplish its goals. It’s imperative that you communicate your eagerness to join the organization but in a way that is genuine and authentic.
