Job Summary:

Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, and management of neurological disorders like brain aneurysms,

traumatic brain injuries, seizures, stroke, epilepsy, brain tumors in both adults and children. You would carry out duties including diagnosing, treating, managing, and giving prescriptions to patients undergoing spinal surgery, neurological or brain surgery. This will occur in two main settings, ICU/HDU and Neurosurgical clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Clinically manage Neurosurgery patients through the continuum of care alongside Neurosurgery Residency team
  • Record patient’s medical information and vital signs in order to come up with an appropriate treatment
  • Observe and report patients’ medical
  • Perform specific lab tests, medical screening procedures, and monitoring neurological Interpret laboratory data accurately.
  • Follow up on a patient’s medical condition and diagnostic test results and report the required information to the
  • Analyze and prioritize the care of clinically complex patients, including sociocultural, cognitive, functional, nutritional, and educational evaluation, leading to the development of a problem list and patient management plan and communicates to patient, family, and interdisciplinary I.e., Develop and implement patient management plans and assist in provision of continuity of care.
  • Management of patients on the ventilator; acute resuscitation of neuro-trauma patients or those with peri-operative complications; extubation and intubation of neurosurgical patients on the
  • Offer specialized pre- and post-operative care to patients (from clinic to discharge)
  • Patient advocate throughout the care process; Render counselling services to patients and their families, thereby improving their awareness of health
  • Conduct relevant research. Assesses quality of patient care delivery and finds opportunities for changes in practice, rooted in evidence-based standards of care/protocols, which promote positive patient
  • Attend the educational program provided for neurosurgical residents so that you can better support the
  • Training of ICU/HDU nurses who care for neurosurgical
  • Participate in neurosurgical quality improvement projects, audit, and research, where your work would be acknowledged
  • Working hours are 07:00 to 16:00 on 5 days per week

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Clinical Medicine & Surgery Certificate in ACLS and BLS
  • ECCCO qualifications Advanced life support training Registration with COC Practicing License

Skills and Experience

  • Evidence of leading a program of education and / or training Minimum 3 years’ experience in managing neurosurgical conditions. Analytical and Judgement skills
  • Able to work independently and across disciplines as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. Effective organization and time management skills
  • Evidence of good IT skills (Intubation / airway management) Current acute clinical experience
  • Able to communicate effectively with children and adults from various regions of East Africa Able to respond to problem situations and to ensure that effective interventions are put in place.
  • Understanding that work is patient based and flexibility of hours is required to achieve best clinical care.
