Purpose and Scope of Assignment

Applications are invited for suitable qualified candidates for the post of a finance officer for the KEMFSED kwale county CPIU. The purpose of the interns is to support the CPIU to ensure timely, organized and swift implementation of project activities. The position assumes the primary responsibility for assisting the project fiduciary team in accounting and prudent management of project resources

Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Work closely with the project accountant to prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for submission to the national project implementation unit and subsequently to the bank
  •  Participate in project financial audits
  •  Updating of the project internal system with financial data
  •  Recording of accounts payables and accounts receivables
  •  Keep and maintain accurate records for all project transactions
  •  Follow up on timely submission and filing of project staff imprest documents
  •  Reconciliation of bank statements
  •  Work closely with the project fiduciary team to ensure timely training of funded community groups on financial management
  •  Work closely with project fiduciary team to guide community groups on prudent utilization of project funds
  •  Work closely with project fiduciary team to capacity build project staff and community groups on development of business plans
  •  Timely prepare and submit reports on community funds disbursements and expenditure
  •  Any other duties as assigned by supervisors

Requirements for appointment:

  •  Must have a Bachelor’s degree (Bachelor of commerce) and minimum CPA part II
  •  Must have a background in finance, accounting, banking and related fields.
  •  Good spoken and written English
  •  Computer skills in MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook will be an added advantage
  •  Must be disciplined, eager to learn new things and attention to details
  •  Abled to keep up with tight deadlines as/when needed.
  •  Must be below 35 years of age.
  •  The parent / guardian of the applicant must have been domiciled inthe county for not less than 10 years.
  •  Must not be a beneficiary of the KEMFSED previous internship program.
  •  Applicants must provide an application letter for internship, curriculum vitae (CV) with certified copies of academic certificates and testimonials.
  •  Applicants from the VMGs and Vulnerable Houses (VHs) are encouraged to apply and they will be given the first priority.

Internship Support

  • The internship programme provides financial support to cater for transport, lunch and airtime costs all valued at approximately KES 20,000 per month.

Terms of Service

  • The internship opportunity is a six months contract renewable based on performance.

Intern’s reporting obligations and work base

  • The Intern will be engaged on full time basis and based on agreed work schedule at the negotiation stage. She/he will report to the County Project Coordinator (CPC) and will be expected to work on a day-to-day basis with the CPIU team members and other relevant departments implementing the project.
