Purpose and Scope of Assignment

Applications are invited for suitable qualified candidates for the post of fisheries officer for the KEMFSED Kwale County CPIU. The purpose of the interns is to support the CPIU to ensure timely, organized, and swift implementation of project activities. The position assumes the primary responsibility for assisting the funded community groups in the implementation of fisheries sub-projects through the KEMFSED project within the county. The officer will work closely with the project fisheries focal person, the county fisheries technical officers to ensure the project objective is optimally achieved through the fisheries sector.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Accurately collecting, recording and analyzing fisheries, aquaculture and blue economy related statistical data from recreational and commercial fishers
  •  Overseeing fishery operations and equipment
  •  Participate in fisheries policy research and development and monitoring of its implementation in the project
  •  Participate in the preparation and monitoring of implementation of fisheries management plans and measures
  •  Ensuring consistent and timely reporting on any KEMFSED project activities undertaken within the fisheries value chain under component 1 and 2
  •  Work closely with other fisheries officers in the project to determine impacts caused by global climate change, pollution and other causes
  •  Any other duties as instructed by the supervisor

Requirements for appointment:

  •  Must have completed a Bachelor’s degree or a Diploma in a recognized learning institution in the following fields:-Fisheries and aquaculture, Fisheries management, Aquatic sciences, Zoology, or any other relevant qualification from a recognized institution
  •  Recipients are expected to be well-versed with sector applied
  •  Must be below 35 years of age.
  •  The parent / guardian of the applicant must have been domiciled inthe county for not less than 10 years.
  •  Must not be a beneficiary of the KEMFSED previous internship program.
  •  Applicants must provide an application letter for internship, curriculum vitae (CV) with certified copies of academic certificates and testimonials.
  •  Applicants from the VMGs and Vulnerable Houses (VHs) are encouraged to apply and they will be given the first priority.

How To Apply

Internship Support

  • The internship programme provides financial support to cater for transport, lunch and airtime costs all valued at approximately KES 20,000 per month.

Terms of Service

  • The internship opportunity is a six months contract renewable based on performance.

Intern’s reporting obligations and work base

  • The Intern will be engaged on full time basis and based on agreed work schedule at the negotiation stage. She/he will report to the County Project Coordinator (CPC) and will be expected to work on a day-to-day basis with the CPIU team members and other relevant departments implementing the project.
