Duties and Responsibilities

  • Undertaking design for Solar PV systems;
  • Designing, installing, repairing and maintaining of electrical and electronic equipment in government buildings;
  • Formulating and reviewing of specifications for purchase of electrical/electronic equipment;
  • Designing or coordinating design of photovoltaic (PV) or solar thermal systems, including system components, for residential and commercial buildings;
  • Creating electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules, or connection diagrams for solar electric systems, using computer-aided design (CAD) software;
  • Performing site diligence, providing site-specific or customer-specific design, and validating design requirements to suit the client;
  • Designing and installing solar energy systems, including photovoltaic (PV) arrays, solar thermal systems, and solar water heating systems;
  • Monitoring the execution of development projects and supervising and training of engineers and technical staff;
  • Identifying and assessing renewable energy sources and energy conservation measures in the County and quantifying them for feasibility;
  • Enforcing site supervision standards for renewable energy projects i.e. solar, wind and biomass;
  • Formulating and implementing of policies and institutional framework for renewable energy and energy conservation projects;
  • Overseeing promotion of community education and awareness programmes on all matters relating to renewable energy and energy conservation;
  • Preparing and coordinating of departmental strategic and action plans, quarterly and annual reports;
  • Checking quarterly progress reports submitted from Sub-Counties and recommending appropriate action;
  • Planning, coordinating, organizing and controlling activities in renewable energy section.
  • Carrying out monitoring and evaluation of renewable energy and energy conservation projects.;
  • Monitoring and evaluation of renewable energy and energy projects;
  • Any other lawful duty that may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time

Requirements for appointment:

  • Be a Kenyan Citizen;
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or any other relevant and equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
  • Have a minimum of 9 years’ experience in Engineering (Electrical/ Renewable energy);
  • Attended a Project Development and Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized Institution;
  • Attended a Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized Institution; vi. Registered by the Engineers Registration Board of Kenya (minimum Graduate Engineer);
  • Member of Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) – Graduate Engineer;
  • Demonstrated general administrative ability required for direction, control and implementation of electrical services programmes; 
  • T3 License will be an added advantage; and
  • Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institution.
