Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparing county, metropolitan regional, rural, and physical development plans;
  • Guiding data requirements for the various categories of physical development plans;
  • Implementing physical planning policies and strategies; standards and programmes;
  • Conducting thematic regional and national studies;
  • Keeping a record of deliberations and communicating the decisions of physical planning liaison committees;
  • Advising liaison committees and overseeing enforcement of resolutions; and
  • Preparing annual state of physical planning reports on county, regional, urban, and rural physical development plans.

Requirement for appointment
For appointment in this grade, an officer must:

  • Have served in the grade of Chief Physical Planner, Job Group CPSB 07/ ‘M’ for a minimum period of three (3) years;
  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following disciplines; Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Planning, or Town Planning from a recognized University;
  • Be a corporate member of Kenya Institute of Planners or Architectural Association of Kenya (Town Planners Chapter);
  • Be a Registered Planner by the Physical Planners Registration Board;
  • Have a certificate in Senior Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized organization;
  • Have a certificate in Computer Applications Skills; and
  • Have demonstrated merit and shown ability as reflected in work performance and results.
