Duties and Responsibilities

An officer at this level will be deployed in any of the units within the department. Specific duties will include:-

  • Planning, structures, and supervision of design for buildings, civil works, and other structures;
  • Supervision of construction works
  • General administration of projects;
  • Preparation of tender documents and estimates for civil, and structural works;
  • Supervise staff working in the unit; and
  • Any other lawful duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Requirement for appointment

For appointment in this grade, an officer must:

  • Have served in the grade of Superintending Engineer (Structural/Civil), Job Group CPSB 07/ ‘M’ or in a comparable position in the Public Service for a minimum period of three (3) years;
  • Have a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized University;
  • Be a Registered Engineers Registration Board of Kenya (ERB);
  • Current valid annual practicing license from the Engineering Registration Board of Kenya;
  • Corporate membership with the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK); and
  • Attended a Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution; and
  • Demonstrated general administrative ability required for direction, control, and implementation of civil engineering programs.
