Position Summary

The principal Legal officer liaises with external law firms on litigations by preparing witness statements and collecting evidence, Providing legal opinion on matters about KIPPRA, Updating the institute on relevant new legislation, and reviewing contract agreements, leases, and other legal instruments. Ensuring compliance with regulations, contractual obligations, and policies and implementing corrective actions

Duties and responsibilities will entail:-

  • Liaising with external law firms on litigations by preparing witness statements and collecting evidence;
  • Providing legal opinion on matters about KIPPRA;
  • Updating the Institute on relevant new legislations;
  • Filing periodic statutory returns with the regulators;
  • Drawing standard contract templates;
  • Reviewing contract agreements, leases, and other legal instruments;
  • Undertaking research on legal issues relating to KIPPRA;
  • Ensuring compliance with Laws, regulations, standards and codes;
  • Monitoring and evaluating compliance with regulations, contractual obligations, and policies and implementing corrective actions;
  • Conducting investigations on court cases on matters before filing suit; (xi) Maintaining safe custody of contracts and legal documents; and (xii)(xii) Participating in the preparation of work plans, Budgets, and reports.

Qualifications

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:-

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognized institution;
  • Master’s Degree in Law;
  • Postgraduate Diploma from Kenya School of Law;
  • Minimum period of six (6) years post-admission in Legal Affairs;
  • Admitted as an Advocate of the High Court;
  • Member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing;
  • Member of the Institute of Certified Secretaries;
  • Management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
  • Computer skills; and
  • Fulfill the requirements for Chapter six (6) of the Constitution.
