The Social Protection Officer will be responsible for the setting up, management, and coordination of functional Counseling services targeting adolescents and youth. She/he will also provide a range of therapeutic counseling services to adolescents and youth.

Location: Nairobi

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive psychosocial counseling to clients accessing services including but not limited to issues on substance abuse, SGBV, and stress or depression.
  • In collaboration with program leads support capacity building in child protection, and child safeguarding services.
  • Providing psychological counseling and adult counseling, family and workplace counseling, and offering HIV and AIDS Testing and Counseling Services to consenting clients.
  • Maintain high-quality counseling services over time and ensure an appropriate level of accountability.
  • Conduct sensitization, dialogue, and mediation sessions with the wider population on health issues including mental health.
  • Integrate psychosocial counseling and support to beneficiaries within CFK programs.
  • Actively engage in continuous program design to effectively reach the youths and adolescents.
  • Identify partners/networks to work with to ensure wholesome support to the clients.
  • Participate in the development of referral networks between partners implementing psychological support and implementation of referral pathways.
  • Document client data accurately in the intake forms and ensure they are under lock and key. 
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on counseling activities within set timelines
  • Engage in quality self-care through supervision, debriefings, and other shared sessions.
  • Ensure good documentation of the clients seen according to the counseling principles.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field.
  • HTS certificate from a NASCOP Accredited institution.
  • Assist in mapping the existing MHPSS, GBV, child protection, child safeguarding services, and support mechanisms.
  • Demonstrated social protection experience in data collection and detecting and referring vulnerable cases as well as information dissemination and individual counseling.
  • 5 years of progressive experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • The ability to develop a non-judgmental approach.
  • An understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Resilience, patience, and humility.
  • Real interest in people.

Compensation: 

Compensation is dependent upon qualifications and experience in line with the CFK Africa Salary Band.
