Job Description

To grow and maintain Retail, SME, bancassurance, microinsurance, digital and partnerships business lines by leading the team (monitoring quality and quantity of workflow, training, developing and motivating staff, routing and streamlining work, and assisting staff with difficult queries), thus achieving the set revenue targets and objective for set business lines.
To assess and determine terms for risks for the above-mentioned business lines presented within set standards of service in a manner to ensure quality selection of risks and timely service.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for identifying business opportunities, coordinating & growing the below business lines; Retail health, SME, Bancassurance, Micro insurance, digital and partnerships within health business.
  • Drive forward the strategic development & preparation of short term and long-term plans based on the objectives of health business.
  • Plan, set and manage the annual Retail health, SME, Bancassurance, Micro insurance, digital and partnerships operating budget, reforecast quarterly as appropriate and take steps to address underperformance.
  • Ensure that proper management of accurate, quality, and timely business reports and use these to compile channel reports.
  • Managing an efficient sales cycle (sales pipeline) and value-based service cycle through use of Product bundling to drive the business goals.
  • Provide Training support for the distribution channel partners.
  • Ensure effective internal controls, policies and procedures are in place.
  • Management of the Distribution Channels including Branches to ensure to ensure revenue growth.
  • Increase in the number of the distribution channel partners for retail SME, bancassurance, micro insurance, digital and partnerships.
  • Determine acceptability of risks, monitor and review terms based on risk profile.
  • Actively coordinate new business opportunities.
  • Develop a comprehensive sales and distribution strategy to maximize sales opportunities leading to revenue growth.
  • Achieve the revenue budgets within the set timelines.
  • Collaborate with members of the Marketing team and come up with marketing initiatives to penetrate key markets.
  • Ensure high persistency levels for renewing clients.
  • Manage the sales expense budget and ensure that sales incentives are rolled out and awarded in a timely manner.
  • Develop and sustain agents’ development strategies
  • Identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs in distribution to support organizational goals.
  • Ensure compliance to insurance related Statutory and regulatory requirements including Treating Customers Fairly, Data Protection and Anti Money Laundering.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key business leaders to support business expansion and Cross- selling objectives with other divisions.
  • Ensure that compliance of the company’s underwriting policies and processes are adhered to.
  • Building relevant departmental capacity to deliver on strategy by leading, guiding, directing, and evaluating the work of the team.
  • Provide reports, presentations, and recommendations on market trends, customer trends, and competitors actions.
  • Staff administration – Supervise, training and mentor staff on technical matters.
  • Ensure profitability of the relevant product at appropriate cost levels

Qualifications:

  • A business-related degree from recognized university
  • Relevant professional insurance qualification – Dip CII/ACII/LOMA
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office Package: Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook Technical Knowledge
  • 5 years in medical insurance business development and underwriting functions
  • 3 years in supervisory/management role
