Head Teacher Job Shining Hope For Communities

Job Purpose

To be responsible for maintaining a high quality of education in line with SHOFCO’s vision, mission and guiding principles; and the overall coordination of the school curriculum, activities and operations to ensure that the school runs efficiently and effectively on a day to day basis.

Key Responsibilities / Duties/ Tasks

HR Related task

  • Coach, mentor, and evaluate the performance of the whole faculty.
  • Develop a long-range in-service plan for the faculty in collaboration with the Education Management team.
  • Manage HR efforts – including education staff management, administration, and recruitment
  • Deal with queries and complaint procedures.
  • Train, supervise and motivate faculty and auxiliary staff.
  • Provide administrative support to an academic team of teachers.

Planning, budgeting and other administrative related tasks

  • Manage budget and ensure financial systems are followed – including creating a yearly budget and managing it accordingly
  • Develop and administer the general school routine, and coordinate all activities within the school.
  • Manage supply acquisition, purchasing goods and equipment’s required and processing invoices – ensuring efficient usage of school resources.
  • Manage other administrative duties related to running the school
  • Oversee record keeping
  • Education program reporting and supporting advancement team when needed

Academic Related Tasks

  • Oversee proper implementation of SHOFCO Curriculum using recommended teaching methodologies.
  • Ability to offer teacher training on curriculum design, implementation and evaluation.
  • Collect, analyse, share and interpret internal and external school assessment data and ensure the data is used strategically to improve student academic performance.
  • Oversee planning, execution and analysis of intervention programs targeted at needs of diverse academic subgroups.
  • Identify intellectual, physical, social and emotional needs affecting student’s success in school in collaboration with teachers, students, parents and social worker.
  • Encourage and initiate continuous improvement in curriculum and teaching methods.
  • Maintain high levels of quality assurance that include course evaluation and course approval procedures

Other

  • Ensure that the programs of the school are consistent with the vision, mission, and guiding principles of SHOFCO schools.
  • Maintain effective communication to keep staff, students and parents properly informed.
  • Maintain an educational philosophy and school climate which encourages a cooperative and participatory attitude on the part of all teachers and students.
  • Manage and develop external partnerships and represent the school in interactions with government officials – this includes welcoming external visitors to school
  • Contribute to policy and planning
  • Review and implementation of school policies
  • Handle relations with parents, students, employers and the community.
  • Oversee variety of educational or social activities.
  • Draft and interpret regulations.
  • Stay up to date with changes in the Kenyan education sector and work to ensure all ministry requirements are met
  • Ensuring the safety of all children in the institution/programme

Job Competencies (Knowledge, Experience and Attributes / Skills).

Academic Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Education or any related field

Professional Qualification

  • P1, Diploma , Higher Diploma or Bachelors degree in Primary Education

 Other requirements (unique/job specific)

  • Must be registered with Teachers Service Commission (TSC)
  • 8 Years Experience and training in student centred approach to education that encourages exploration, inquiry, problem-solving and real world thinking skills
  • Trained on CBC
  • Experience working with primary school and/or middle school children
  • 4 Years Experience in school administration
  • Knowledge of school administrative processes and national educational regulations
