The Immunisation and Primary Healthcare Associate is a mid-to-senior level role on our team who will spend 75% of their time leading the delivery of ongoing and new projects (covering delivery of technical assistance and evaluations and assessments across the immunisation and primary healthcare landscape, etc) and 25% of their time designing new projects across the vaccines, immunisation, and primary healthcare landscape in the East and Southern Africa sub-region.

Roles and responsibilities

The Immunisation and Primary Healthcare Associate will hold a bachelor’s degree in medicine, public health, vaccinology, epidemiology, or a related field and a relevant master’s degree, with at least 7 years of relevant experience in Immunisation and primary healthcare roles and in working in international settings. The ideal candidate will have experience in managing public health projects and/or in similar work, experience in engaging with government, and relevant experience to be able to provide technical expertise and guidance in workshops, expert/stakeholder consultations, in-country and regional presentations, and coordination activities for immunisation and primary healthcare programmes and projects. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in English. Knowledge of French or Portuguese is an added advantage. The candidate will possess good interpersonal skills, strong organisational, time-management, and prioritisation skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications. The ideal candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team, will be comfortable showing flexibility and adaptability to handle diverse tasks and changing priorities, show attention to detail, and have the ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality. Familiarity with the Immunisation Core group and expanded partners across East and Southern Africa is an added advantage.

Some specific responsibilities will include: 

  • Develop project plans with timelines and deliverables and lead project to successful completion, on-time and on-budget, from start to finish with limited senior management guidance.
  • Manage the rollout and implementation of TA delivery or other projects per agreed project plans and timelines.
  • Manage the project team including both internal and external resources in the design, development, and delivery of projects, including support for hiring and managing of project teams and consultants.
  • Serve as the liaison between clients, partners, and our team, including negotiating relevant third-party contracts.
  • Provide technical leadership of project delivery including development of client reports and presentations.
  • Proactively mentor, coach, and share subject matter expertise with team members.
  • Lead or provide inputs to the process of proposal preparation and/or modifications including overall bid integrity, understanding the needs of the stakeholders, and driving development of relevant and cost-competitive bids.
  • Identify partners, consultants, and subject matter experts in the country and region for bids and pursuits.
  • Develop and/or elevate new business opportunities through the identification of follow-on work and new leads.
  • Engage with stakeholders in the ecosystem to identify and build out new business opportunities; and
  • Support marketing and outreach efforts, including editorial pieces and stakeholder engagement activities.
