PATH Strategic Communications Officer Job

  •  PATH is currently recruiting for a Strategic Communication Officer for secondment to the Ministry of Health in Kenya. The primary responsibilities of this role will involve raising the profile of Universal Health Coverage and Primary Health Care efforts in the country, supporting social behavior change communication in collaboration with the MoH technical teams, and support for MoH strategic communications activities with external constituents.  

The strategic communications officer will report to the PATH Kenya Communications Coordinator based in Nairobi and the MoH Communications Office. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Elevating MoH’s work and commitments around Universal Health Coverage and Primary Health Care 

  • Documentation of Kenya’s PHC Journey in coordination with the Division of Primary Health Care 
  • Documentation of success stories featuring Community Health Promoters (CHPs) ,Health Care Workers (HCWs) on PHC in coordination with the Division of Primary Health Care 
  • Support media, social media engagement, stakeholder engagement and report writing on Primary Health Care/UHC

Supporting communication related to Social Behavior Change Communication at the Ministry of Health  

  • Working with the Health Promotion Unit to promote and communicate health behaviors through social media content, web articles, and media engagement.  
  • Mapping out of World Health days and supporting communication activities aligned to health days. These include speech writing, op-eds, social media content, event management. 
  • Communications support for key health breakthroughs and moments including celebrating innovation, positive outcomes, new products/interventions, excellence in the health sector etc.  

Supporting MoH strategic communication objectives in coordination the MoH Communications team:  

  • Minute taking and report writing during technical meetings.  
  • Technical communications assistance to MoH to support MoH events. 
  • Support for stakeholder engagement, media and social media engagement within MoH .  
  • Risk communications support working closely with technical directorates in the event of a crisis.  

Qualifications and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public health or related fields 
  • Work Experience: 3-5 years of professional experience in communications, preferably in development communication or public health. 
  • English is essential and Swahili strongly preferred. 
  • Demonstrated experience supporting communications efforts in within the health sector.  
  • Flexible approach and ability to navigate ambiguity, as well as multiple projects and various priorities at once. 
  • Experience in producing and editing, under tight deadlines, accurate and dynamic communications materials, including press-releases, op-eds, talking points and digital content. 
  • Creativity in developing compelling content, and creative pursuit of targets in achievement of communications objectives across different channels (media, social, web etc.) 
  • High Emotional intelligence , excellent judgement, and strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.  
  • Outstanding organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail

Desired Skills  

  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills with strong ability to convey ideas and technical information into written language. 
  • Good interpersonal skills and team spirit 
  • Ability to travel locally to support MoH Communications activities. 
  • Good relationship with media 
  • Ability to work with creative design software is an advantage.
