Job Description

The role will be responsible for supporting strategic planning and execution and all reporting of a strategic and monitoring nature for the Kenya Short-Term Business. The Strategy Manager will work closely with the Executive team to analyze market trends, identify opportunities, and formulate effective strategies to drive the company’s success in a dynamic and competitive environment. This role will also involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to align business objectives with strategic initiatives, ensuring a cohesive and unified approach to achieving organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Strategic Planning:

  • Support strategic planning and review process and support Functional Unit plans and goal alignment with support functions.
  • Support the Strategic planning process by leading in the development of models, frameworks, and templates.
  • Document the strategic plans for engagements with Boards, Staff, and the Center.
  • Provide input in preparing and managing the forecasting process (12 months rolling) to ensure appropriate targets are set, periodically reviewed and all parameters considered.
  • Lead the process of creatively cascading, communicating, and internalizing the strategy across the organization and to key external implementation partners for buy-in
  • Foster excellent functional and cross-business collaboration to support the achievement of short-term business ambition.

 Strategic Implementation tracking and Enterprise performance management. 

  • Maintain a single source of organization, departmental, and business unit performance data on an ongoing basis as part of enterprise performance management.
  • Prepare monthly strategic implementation reports and keep Senior Managers informed of project direction as necessary.
  • Quantify the impact of business initiatives by utilizing data gathering tools, extracting data for analysis and interpretation, preparing reports synthesizing analytical results, and outlining business cases to appropriate levels of management.
  • Lead the preparation of the company and departmental scorecards annually as part of the Business Planning Process with quarterly appraising.
  • Highlight any material risks to the implementation of the same and escalate to the relevant parties for corrective action.

Champion Strategic Execution

  • Lead the development of relevant execution approaches and strategies to ensure high-level buy-in from senior management, commitment from staff, and follow-through on strategic commitments made.
  • Coach department leaders to help them implement the plan and meet their goals. Provide support in strategizing individual departments and review, analyze, and manage all existing department strategies to ensure all departments align with the business’s key strategies.
  • Provide ad-hoc strategic review and support issues areas for the business with strategic, operational, and tactical interventions/ cause correct recommendations.
  • Coordinate teams driving key priority areas execution and support through deep insights and reporting on milestones and next actions.
  • Lead transformation realization through competitive internal and external insights and ideas development and rollout.
  • Work with the GMs and Functional Managers to Conceptualize solutions – Innovating around required transformations, products, processes; desired outcomes/KPIs.
  • Champion comprehensive solution co-creation between teams for comprehensive solutions development.

Industry, Market, and Business Intelligence Review:

  • Lead development of a comprehensive strategic view of the insurance industry strategic landscape, including consumer trends, competitive intelligence, product reviews, and emerging industry issues periodically.
  • Leveraging data mining and business intelligence, identifies trends, patterns, and opportunities in the current performance and collaborates with the team in review of periodic targets e.g., initiatives impact reviews and various performance metrics and customer behavior patterns.

Strategic Reporting:

  • Prepares business reports on a monthly and quarterly basis focused on strategic priorities for consumption by senior management.
  • Flag issue areas monthly to MD and accountable head for course correction
  • Support engagement and communications on strategy implementation and business performance updates.

Risk Management

  • Identifying and managing risks that could affect the delivery of the strategy establishing plans to mitigate the risks and ensuring the company is prepared for any potential changes.
  • Monitor the departmental risk items and IBAM items for timely closure. the achievement of Full Compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.
  • 8+ Years experience in a progressive financial service sector, management consulting, or Telco
  • 3+ Years of progressive management experience, including the ability to develop staff.
  • Expert level of proficiency in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, and Access

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Statistics, Actuarial Science or equivalent required
  • Master’s Degree, MBA, or equivalent will be an added advantage
