Job Summary

  • The Macro Fiscal and Public Debt Unit (MFPDU) conducts research and analysis on macroeconomic and fiscal issues, with a particular focus on public debt management and sustainability. We work with policymakers, civil society organizations, and the private sector to promote sound fiscal policies and responsible debt management practices.
  • We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Analyst to join our MFPDU team. The Data Analyst will play a key role in supporting our research program on macro fiscal and public debt issues, contributing to the development of high-quality research outputs and engaging with stakeholders to ensure our research has an impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and present research findings in clear, concise, and well-organized reports, briefs, presentations, and policy papers.
  • Assist with the design and implementation of research projects and technical assistance activities.
  • Conduct research on assigned topics related to macroeconomics, fiscal policy, and public debt management.
  • Analyze data from various sources, including government reports, international databases, and academic literature using quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • Prepare research reports, briefs, and policy papers.
  • Develop and maintain databases on relevant economic and fiscal indicators.
  • Contribute to the development of research proposals and budgets.
  • Assist with the organization and conduct of workshops, seminars, and conferences.
  • Liaise with policymakers, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Stay up to date on current developments in macroeconomics, fiscal policy, and public debt management.
  • Contribute to the overall work of the Macro Fiscal and Public Debt Unit and Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in economics, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Experience in conducting research using both quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to research excellence and policy impact.
  • Experience with relevant research software, such as Stata, EViews, or R, is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of the Kenyan economy and public finance issues is desirable.
