USIU Africa Faculty Librarian Job

Job Summary

Reporting to the University Librarian, the holder of this position will be expected to teach, conduct research, and engage in service performance aimed at enhancing transformative teaching, learning, and research. They will also be responsible for developing library resources and support that enhance learning and teaching, research and professional practice.

Key Responsibilities/Tasks

  • Teach undergraduate courses in their discipline or related area.
  • Participate in curriculum development activities to ensure that the programs are up-to-date and marketable.
  • Participate in program development, reviews and assessment
  • Support and mentor students in their career endeavours.
  • Supervise students’ research (projects/ thesis/ dissertations) at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Engage in research in the area of expertise.
  • Participate in the teaching of non-credit information literacy sessions.
  • In partnership with library colleagues, develop and maintain library instructional materials, tutorials, and other learning objects for an array of disciplines and subject areas.
  • Participate in Library Services budget planning and the formulation and review of goals, policies, and procedures.
  • Engage in service to the University, the profession, and to the community.
  • Compile regular section reports and statistics to inform decision making.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Minimum Educational Qualifications and Professional Experience

  • Must have a Ph.D. degree in Library and Information Sciences from a recognized academic institution OR Must have a Masters degree in Library and Information Science from a recognized academic institution plus at least three (3) years of teaching experience at university level after obtaining a Masters degree and at least two (2) publications in referred journal(s). Those with a Masters degree should be registered for Ph.D.
  • Professional Librarian qualification.
  • Up to date experience (last 2 years) of working in a higher education library.
  • Experience of delivering information literacy skills development within a University Library.
  • Experience of producing materials to support online learning, resource retrieval and exploration.
