Pesapal Internal Auditor Job

Job Summary:  

  • The job holder will be primarily responsible for performing financial, operational, system and process audits of the organization’s functions and reports on the adequacy, or otherwise, of the internal controls as a contribution to the proper economic, efficient, and effective use of resources.

Key Responsibilities: 
Internal Audit Plan

  • Develop and implement quarterly risk-based audit plans. Engage with business units and process owners on audit deliverables (risk assessments, control workshops and adequacy assessments) and timeframes.
  • Develop and manage a flexible annual audit plan using appropriate risk-based methodology, including any risks or control concerns identified by management, and submit that plan to the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer/General Manager for review and approval.
  • Implement the annual audit plan, as approved, including, as appropriate, any special tasks or projects requested by Board of Directors and the Chief Executive Officer/General Manager. 
  • Undertake financial, operational, administrative and information technology audits, for all company programs and projects.
  • Ensure the implementation of internal audit recommendations.

Annual External Audit Process

  • Participate in open meetings with departments to explain the scope and objectives of the audit engagement to auditees and provide an overview of all steps in the audit process.
  • Liaise with the external auditors as appropriate, for the purpose of providing optimal audit coverage.
  • Follow up on the implementation of external audit recommendations.

Advisory Services

  • Provide consulting and advisory services, beyond internal auditing assurance services, to assist management in meeting its objectives; improve the governance, risk, and control culture, and maintain a quality assurance program by which the function assures the operation of internal auditing activities.
  • Undertake review of systems and internal controls to safeguard financial and physical assets and making recommendations to correct any weaknesses.
  • Carry out special audits and investigations as may be required by the Executive Director and/ or management in case fraudulent activity is suspected.

Reports

  • Prepare reports and organize and reference work papers for review by the Executive Director and/or Audit Committee.
  • Preparation of a concise and informative audit report to effectively communicate the findings and recommendations to the departments and management.
  • Report periodically on the status and results of the audit plan and the adequacy of resources allotted to the function. 

Risk Management

  • Identify the operational, financial, strategic, and compliance risks that the organization faces and understand the risk profile of the business. 
  • Assess the effectiveness of the organization’s risk management process.
  • Facilitate risk register maintenance.

Education/Experience Needed: 

  • Education: bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related subject. Knowledge of systems such as, Microsoft Dynamics ERP, SAGE, Oracle etc.
  • Must be in possession of an internationally recognized Professional Accounting Qualifications (CIA, CPA, ACA, CIPFA, CIMA or its equivalent, Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Registrar Accreditation Board (RAB).
  • Five (5) years relevant experience as an Internal Auditor. Experience in a reputable audit firm or in the Banking or Financial services industry is an added advantage.
  • Technical Skills: Thorough understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards and various regional statutory requirements and their application.
  • Personal Skills: The ability to prioritize, be attentive to details, maintain confidentiality, and provide exceptional client service is required. Sound written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical, organizational skills and sense of urgency and a commitment to timely completion of tasks/projects.
  • Technology skills: Good knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Language skills: Fluent in verbal and written English.
