KWTRP Clinical Officer Job

Job Purpose

To provide efficient and effective clinical care to trial participants enrolled in the VAC078 trial. This is a phase III randomized controlled trial that involves evaluating the efficacy of a malaria vaccine. The post holder is expected to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure high quality acquisition of trial data and clinical care provision to trial participants.

Job Dimensions

The job will entail performing physical examination, taking medical history, and using standardized case report forms to record the participant’s information. The clinical officer will also be involved in the management of safety issues related to the vaccine and the collection and tracking of information on adverse events and protocol deviations that occur during the study.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take a leading role in consenting and follow up of trial participants.
  • Provision of clinical care to clinical trial participants and maintain study documentation.
  • Ensure the completion of all the relevant CRFs including transcription of information from source documents.
  • Ensure all the study procedures are followed in accordance with the protocol, SOP and laboratory analytical plan (LAP).
  • Ensure any concerns the study procedures and supplies are flagged early and where applicable addressed or referred.
  • Ensure timely accurate sample collection as outlined by the LAP and oversight of processes for safe accurate vaccination.
  • Ensure competency in timely and accurate reporting of adverse events.
  • Provide regular updates to the trial management team on the status of the study.
  • Attend and participate in trial related meetings (internal and external) and any other relevant CTF meetings as required.
  • Attend clinical skills training and updates when required.
  • Ensure professional and diplomatic communication with peers, collaborators and stakeholders.
  • And any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

Job Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in Clinical Medicine and surgery
  • At least three (4) years clinical experience and 1 year of vaccine trial experience
  • Valid Membership with Clinical Officer Council
  • Certificate in Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  • Knowledge/ experience in patient care and in undertaking medical procedures.
  • Computer literate with proficiency and experience in using email applications and Microsoft applications such as Word and Excel.
