Meet Mark Masai, a skillful adept TV Journalist and presenter who has been described by some of his fan as a professional and good looking. He is admired by many because of the way he delivers news in an authoritative manner that portrays him as composed and intelligent.

His journey to become a leading news anchor began when he was just 22 years old when he joined the Nation Media Group’s (NTV) in 2008 and made his first appearance as one of the youngest prime news TV anchors in Kenya .

Where did he grow up?

His journey has always not been smooth sailing as most may think as at just 7 months his mother gave him up for adoption.

In a previous interview, he says that his biological mother, Fatuma Abdullahi, took him to a missionary for adoption soon after he was born. She gotten pregnant with him immediately after clearing primary school; she was thus considered not ready for motherhood and was also too poor to meet his needs.

He was later adopted by Mary Wright, a British Missionary, who raised Mark and his foster brother until she left the country in 2001. She left Mark and his brother behind, but by then, they were all grown up.

Mark Masai says that his adoptive mother is the one who helped him to be the journalist and presenter he is today.

“My mother insisted on the proper use of English language, she was an English teacher and the use of proper language was mandatory, that’s what I am using today to pay my bills,” he recently told AM Live

He also says that his participation in African Children’s Choir which allowed him to tour most of the U.S. and to perform in front of huge crowds helped him gain the courage for public performance something he would need for his career.

He attended Catholic University where he pursued a degree in Social Communication and a month after clearing school he secured a job with Hope FM as a newsreader and also doing commercials. He then joined Classic FM.

Later Mark was able to get the attention of several TV stations from the radio stations and he managed to get an opportunity to work with the Nation Media Group as a news anchor and reporter.

Why did he join TV?

Mark says that, after doing radio for a while, he always imagined starting his own show where he would help people solve their issues but that did not happen so he decide to do news anchoring on TV because he had had experience at work.

For those aspiring to join the media industry, Mark has an advice for you.

“Do not get into the industry because of the glamour, do it because of the passion you have for communication,” he says

He also adds that once you are in the industry you have to be able to balance your public and private life for once you get into the industry you become a public property.

And what drives him in this job?

He says that the credibility that comes with the job and the fact that he is able to mentor people makes him want to wake up in the morning and head for work.
