Hilarious! KTN’s News Anchor Betty Kyalo Talks About Her ‘Interesting’ Days in Campus

Sassy celebrated news anchor Betty Kyalo seems to have it all. The KTN news anchor is engaged to her long term beau Dennis Okari and is currently pregnant.

So what about her campus life, was it just as interesting?

Well, she tells The Standard that yes, university was interesting for a couple of reasons.

“One, I didn’t live on campus and had to make due commuting to and fro school hence certain interesting things in university would pass me by.”

Two, she loves cars and still does. “I am one of those girls you’ll find watching Formula one and Motorsport.” Her love affair with cars began way back while she was still in campus. “I would skip classes to go for test drives. Some of my friends knew this and the whole idea of a lady doing test drives got them excited.” She says she got the chance to drive many cars among them the Nissan which she attests was the best.

So was it worthwhile driving all those cars? “Of course yes! Who wouldn’t want to drive a brand new car, fueled by a company, just because they want to know how good the car is?”

It was this love for cars that inspired her to start ‘Auto World’, a TV segment which used to air on KTN. The series would focus on everything cars from safety tips to car servicing. The feedback from the show was so crazy, that she got nicknamed ‘Betty, yule wa magari’ (Betty, the one for cars).

And what else did she get up to other than the driving? Shopping!

“As a student you can’t really afford much. So in town, me and my friends would bargain for clothes from Sh. 50, which looked like much at the time, to Sh. 30. Besides, Sh. 30 for a good top is quite the bargain.”

My friends and I would also hang out at the cafeteria and spend hours on end for what she likes to call ‘Fellowship’ and ’Swallowship’. Basically you eat as you gossip.

Parting shot? Enjoy campus after all that’s partly what it’s there for. “Now that I look at it, it wasn’t such a boring time after all, now was it?”

Betty Kyalo attended Daystar University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication in 2009. She later got an internship and it was there that she got discovered and the rest as they say is history.
