Water Engineer Job at Maji Milele
Maji Milele Ltd is a young Dutch owned company that started operating in Kenya in June 2014. Maji Milele is a fast growing company that is fully focused on Prepaid Water Metering solutions. We install prepaid water meters for individual connections as well as for communal water points and in some cases we also act as a full maintenance service operator for these water points. The first prepaid water point was installed as a pilot in October 2013 (see www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufN_tEXlzEY) and we now have clients in 11 counties.
We expect that the business will grow further and we also expect a major new project in Siaya county for which we look for a water engineers with proven business skills. The project is a 7-year project in which, together with an NGO and the county government of Siaya, we will select 7 out of 19 pre-identified water schemes, which will then be rehabilitated and operated by Maji Milele on the basis of social enterprise principles, meaning: we strive for both commercial benefits as well as social impact.
Job specification:
As a contributing member of Maji Milele Ltd, you will perform a variety of tasks where you will need strong technical water engineering expertise as much as managerial and communication qualities, because you will have to commercially run a local branch office of Maji Milele and this is in close cooperation with a variety of stakeholders like the County Government in Siaya, a local NGO and local water committees.
You will get support from the head office in Nairobi, but you will also have to be able to work quite independently.
In this project you will play a key role in 1) viability studies with strong technical and economic components, 2) oversight of subcontractors, 3) managing and maintaining 7 rural water schemes in Siaya, together with one other key staff member as well as by local staff based in the 7 communities. 4) reporting to international donors.
Next to this project, you will be engaged in growing the business in Western Kenya and potentially Western Uganda. In these regions you will have both commercial tasks (sales) as well as installation and maintenance service tasks.

Qualifications for the Water Engineer Job

• At least 2-3 year hands-on experience in maintenance of rural water schemes.
• At least 1-2 year experience in designing small rural water schemes.
• Business acumen/experience
• Excellent communication skills
• Hands on mentality
• Enough energy to travel, to do field work while not forgetting about office responsibilities.
• Willing to live in Siaya county
• Willing to participate in a Young Expert Program of the Dutch government, which involves studying, learning
• and participating in a 3 week training program in the Netherlands.

Basic requirement: Bachelors Degree in Water Engineering or related course.Furthermore you are below 35 in age and you preferably have: A qualification or experience in business
Salary
The successful candidate should be willing to start on a salary of Ksh. 70.000-120.000, depending on experience and qualifications. On top of this you can get a quarterly bonus for excellent work. Maji Milele does not provide allowances for travelling or field work. We only pay real costs.
Your salary can grow fast by 15-20% annually during first 4 years based on performance.
