Now Revealing The Perfect Answer To “What Are Your Weaknesses”

Tired of failing every interview you attend because you don’t know how to answer this question correctly?
I guarantee that by the time you finish reading this article, you will NEVER again have trouble answering when asked about your weaknesses.
And just as a BONUS, I will give a PERFECT sample answer response to this question.
So why is this question so difficult for most of us? Why do we get scared every time an employer asks us this question?
I will answer that shortly but first, let me address one common myth and mistake on how to answer “what are your weaknesses?”
1. A weakness is NOT a strength in disguise.
I know most of us think that a weakness has to be a strength that is highly camouflaged when in reality it is not.
For instance you can’t say, “Because I’m so ambitious and result-driven, I work too much and spent late nights in the office day in, day out.”
That is not what employers are looking for – “someone who is perfect even in his/her weaknesses” No!
This only makes you look insincere.
So to answer the question…
Why do you find difficulty answering this question? Here are 3 major reasons

  1. You fear saying your weaknesses will cause you NOT to get the job
  2. You are not sure how to say your weaknesses without sounding bad e.g. “I get angry very quickly” etc.
  3. You’re not sure how many weaknesses you should mention

That said, now let us look at the PERFECT response to this question.
1. A weakness should be honest and sincere
If you know that you are genuinely struggling with an issue in your professional life, mention it.
Bear in mind that one the major soft skills employers look for is honesty.
But how you phrase your weakness is also very important. Always be careful to show you are overcoming or overcame a weakness.
Please avoid one word, vague and generic answers like, “I’m a perfectionist”.
I thought you should know most employers never believe anyone who says they are a “perfectionist”.
2. Only mention ONE weakness
More often than not an employer only wants to hear one weakness expressed in a very well-crafted way.
You do not need to mention 10 weaknesses. You might just sabotage your chances of getting that job.
3. NEVER mention weaknesses contrary to the job description
Let’s say for instance the particular job description is asking for someone who can work with a team.
NEVER say, “I prefer working alone”. You have already lost.
And this is why I insist, you must learn how to express a weakness as accurately as possible.
4. It is NEVER about the weakness
Did you know, that when asked this question, employers are not really looking at your weakness but what you are doing about it.
It is never about your flaws rather how are you working to improve them? And that’s where your focus should be…how you are improving on your weaknesses.
This is a practical example on how you should respond…
In the course of my career, I have always struggled with public speaking whether in a meeting, giving a speech, expressing myself in front of an interview panel and so on. However, I decided to overcome this weakness by taking public speaking classes in order to improve my presentation skills. I have greatly improved and this has enabled me to become more confident and I can now speak without fear.
So there you have it ladies and gentlemen…
The PERFECT answer to “what are your weaknesses”.
